My guess is because most romance writers are women, so they want to make sure that “women’s work” is considered silly and unserious. The last thing they want is for a man to read a romance novel and find out what women actually want.
The “It’s not polite to discuss politics or religion” bs was created to keep the grift going. If white people don’t talk about it, they won’t question it. And the person who does talk about it is considered impolite, even uncivilized! So they can be ignored and even shunned.

This is where I came from. Like mine, most of the baby farms were evangelical. My birth mother was told that she had to be like Mary and give her baby up to God. I don’t understand their interpretation of Revelations. It seems pretty clear that Christ annihilates ALL the kings and armies at war. Don’t they know Christ will feast on their flesh? How do they reason that they are the Lambs who will inherit the earth?
