Very excited to kick off our workshop at @esivienna.bsky.social on "Putting the cosmic large-scale structure on the map" today. Looking forward to a week of discussions around extracting the maximum of cosmological information from astronomical observations. Amazing support by the ESI team. Thanks!
We had an exciting kick-off workshop for my team working on the cosmic large scale structure at Bielefeld University, where I brought my @erc.europa.eu Starting Grant. The new GrACe center and our facilitator Helena Ernst supported us to exchange our views and ideas to estbalish good collaboration!
Kudos to arXiv!
The European Astronomical Society has awarded the 2025 Jocelyn Bell Burnell Inspiration Medal to arXiv "for its impact on astrophysical research thanks to the open, free and world-wide distribution of scientific articles".
This is slightly ahead of the official announcement, but:

Fabulous, thank you!
I am looking for a PhD student to work on beyond 2-point statistics for galaxy clustering & weak lensing as part of my Grant "Probing cosmic large-scale structure beyond the average" Details: uni-bielefeld.hr4you.org/job/view/417... Please share in your networks and encourage candidates to apply!

Teaching General Relativity this semester seems to make me a Theoretical Physicist rather than a Cosmologist. Also, Physicist seems to be the only end point reached by two arrows?!
I am excited to say that I will start my ERC Starting Grant βProbing cosmic large-scale structure beyond the averageβ and a professorship at Bielefeld University in March 2024. I am hiring 2 postdocs to join my group in autumn 2024 - learn more on my webpage cosmocora.de and please share it!

Congrats to our very own Samuel Ward whose lecture has been shortlisted for the SAgE PGR Insights public lecture here at @newcastleuni.bsky.social! You can vote to see Samuel's lecture 'An Extragalactic Murder Mystery: Can Black Holes Kill Galaxies?' here: www.ncl.ac.uk/events/notic...
I am not sure bibliometrics are tensors given they seem to depend on the coordinate system (aka inspire vs Google scholar)?
My linocut portrait of Caroline Herschel in kerchief with an image of the night sky with a comet behind her and 5 inset round diagrams with her observations of a comet. She is in grey ink and the rest in dark blue.
For the #Spacetober prompt nebula itβs my portrait of the scientific Cinderella, who escaped a life of domestic drudgery to become astronomer Caroline Herschel (1750-1848)! π‘π§ͺπ§πΌβπ¬#histsci She discovered 11 nebulae (2 of which turned out to be galaxies) which were previously unknown! π§΅1/2
