Keep an eye out for these two rising stars - theyβre bound for amazing things!
Iβm not @sfn.org this year, but 3 talented trainees and a lab alum are representing the Honeycutt RAT lab!
Alena Lemeshova (Z12) will be presenting some of her & Kayaβs honors work as a TPDA awardee, and Kaya Patel & Alex Bloom (W2) are presenting their honors work at the trainee session tonight!

For those applying to NIMH - how are you handling the data management plan factor 6 (with regard to the NIMH requirement for a βvalidation timelineβ) if youβre not collecting large scale genomic data (but instead ihc, behavior, etc)? I canβt find an example on this anywhere!
Looking for examples of intro to revision page for submitting a revised R15 - trying to get a feel for how to structure it/how to indicate changes. Please let me know if youβd be open to sharing!! Trying to get this 17th% R15 through whatever funding threshold the future holdsβ¦..

Alena presenting her summer research during her summer position at Allen in 2024!
Congratulations to Alena Lemeshova, one of our RAT lab honors students, for receiving a @sfn.org TPDA to present her work this year in San Diego on the anxiolytic effects of ketamine!
Looking for a grad student? Alena is searching for a PhD position here in the states for next fall! A rising star!

For every 1 animal used in research, there are hundreds to thousands used for food.
Research animals globally: Estimated 50β100 million/year (most are mice, rats, and fish).
Animals killed for food globally: Over 70β80 billion land animals per year, plus trillions of fish.
Looking for examples of GRFP project proposals (the 2pg doc) to show my seminar class as they prepare to write up some mock proposals!
If youβd be willing to share, please let me know!! Any field is fine (I just want to show ex of layout, justifications, and diff ways of approaching. Thanks!!
I wrote an opinion column for the local newspaper in southern NH where I am from. Thanks to @sciencehomecoming.bsky.social for the inspiration! Please consider doing this in your hometown! #SciAdvocate π§ͺπ©βπ¬

Yessss!! My students have been very curious and wanting to discuss this! Have had conversations in my seminar and my lab meetings. Havenβt in my intro classβ¦yet.
BREAKING:
The NIH summer internship program (SIP) has been officially cancelled, across all institutes.
Itβs a sad loss for the brightest science students in America, for American science, and for future cures for diseases like cancer and Alzheimerβs. π§ͺ 1/
Just submitted my first NIH R15 research grant proposal!!!!
With everything that has happened with this grant and I over the past 6+ months, just getting here is a huge victory.
Iβm not sure whatβs going to happen now, but Iβll celebrate this small win in a sea of chaos and destruction.
Iβll have to look again- tried to guess but wasnβt super sure
You donβt mess with Mainahs! πͺ
Do we know if @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social approves/assigns DOIs over the weekend?
..just hoping to add a DOI to my biosketch so I can upload it to ASSIST.. π π π
A judge has temporarily blocked administrative actions on DEI www.nytimes.com/live/2025/02...
This is all just so outrageously stupid. π‘
βΊοΈ thank you! I think Iβm keeping it all in because FFS that is probably the award I am proudest of and means the most to me. If we canβt bring *everyone* up with us, then is what weβre doing even worth it?
I have that award listed in my Biosketch and mention it as proof that I can successfully mentor traineesβ¦.for a grant that specifically wants me to increase research access to and mentoring of undergrads.
How do I even approach this while staying true to myself and my students.
So R15 AREAs (due Tues) still have the NIH diversity language in the PAR.
Soooo⦠I still have pieces about lowering barriers & supporting my students (also that I have a *clutches pearls* award for DEI/mentoring)
And Iβm a proud+loud queer/firstgen scientist.
How do we even do this friends π©
Grant due next week so of course the universe blessed me with the flu.
This one sucks π©
Send all your good thoughts to finish this thing
Was in back to back class and meetings all day and just taking a peek and what happened today and NO THANK YOU. π‘
