I said much the same thing about open data the other week! www.linkedin.com/pulse/fair-n...
Does the world need another me? I'd say probably not the chaos monkey vibes, but we definitely could use more people who care about @uksg.bsky.social and want to help us succeed. If that's you, consider standing as a trustee!
Continuing my tour through the conference themes at @uksg.bsky.social 2026, we have open educational resources and pedagogy. I'm particularly interested in the OER and open books session!

Inspired by Jeff Lang on @scholarlykitchen.bsky.social , I finally wrote out my thoughts about why #FAIR isn't fair unless it includes Preservation.

I'm not sold on the idea of AI tools saving me time. Gemini just gave me an 'executive summary' that was longer than the original report!
To be fair, I was looking at the registration for regular Charleston when I wrote the bit about reg. Still - the total bill for me to get to Charleston Asia was significantly more than double what I'd spend on UKSG
1. How did you manage that? Charleston Asia cost an absolute fortune for registration, never mind hotel and flights.
2. Surely the point of conferences is learning from each other?I've yet to find another conference that delivers as much value in terms of sessions as UKSG.
Yesterday's @uksg.bsky.social Conference theme of the day was AI and misinformation, so today has to be research integrity and trust. I'm looking forward to the session about community building and trust with @orcid.org and @jisc.bsky.social!

Any 2026 conference worth its salt needs to showcase AI! @uksg.bsky.social has a whole theme on AI, misinformation & emerging technologies.

ps Whatever's keeping CISOs and librarians up at night, may I suggest valerian tea as an antidote?

I'll stick with caffeine, thanks!
It's why in my @uksg.bsky.social Insights article I used the term Sponsored instead of Diamond. Whether you're getting financial support or in-kind donations, someone, somewhere, is paying for the content to be published.
insights.uksg.org/articles/10....
While @unesco.org defines what 'diamond' is, it still doesn't specify where the money comes from to support the necessary shared infrastructures. I don't dislike the concept, but relying on volunteer labour and in-kind support isn't secure in the long term!
UKSG conference themed sessions on open access futures
There's a whole theme on OA Futures @uksg.bsky.social, too, including two on #DiamondOA.
*I still haven't heard a good answer about what diamond means in terms of business models. I live in hope!
If you aren't interested in research infrastructure, how about leadership and career development @uksg.bsky.social #UKSG2026? I'm looking forward to debate club!

Don't wait any longer - there are only *two* exhibit places left for #UKSG2026! Looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Glasgow in March :)
Collaboration is key! I'm taking @countermetrics.bsky.social usage expertise & recent work on AI to @nisoinfo.bsky.social.
We've extended the AI metrics consultation to 23-Feb (after NISO+), so you've got extra time to consider the proposals. More at www.countermetrics.org/niso-ai/
I just had the same message and dropped a line to the @uksg.bsky.social team suggesting it might be time to update the default text!
You say that, but you've not had the misfortune of hearing me sing. I used to use the threat of me singing to make my younger siblings behave.
I'm definitely going to @uksg.bsky.social but I am definitely NOT doing karaoke. I'll come along for moral support, if you like?
Altmetric Explorer screenshot: Showing 5,011,088 mentions (from 4,918,333 individual posts) of research outputs from the results of your search query.
Since Jan 1 2025, which feels like four trillion years ago, research has been shared on here 5 million whole-ass times. Bluesky recently passed 2 billion posts IN TOTAL.
So 0.25% of the entire site's traffic was citations to research.
That is actually massively high. Is it? Yes. Here's why.
The best time to sort out Christmas stuff is just after Christmas - which is why my mum always bought loads of crackers on sale on Boxing Day and stuck them in the cupboard for next year!
It's #DistaffDay, traditionally when women got back to their textile work after the Christmas festivities (you know, because cooking, cleaning, childcare, etc aren't "real work"...). If you're a fellow textilist, what's on your spindle/bobbin/needle/hook/other tool of choice today?
Aiming for a clean inbox before noon, and then I'm closing the office for the year. Wish me luck!
It's been a joy to see our 1st cohort developing their knowledge in real time, and the feedback has been like an early Christmas present.
We're starting again in Feb with cohort 2, so if you've been thinking about your professional development needs for 2026, keep us in mind!
Building out the materials for @countermetrics.bsky.social Academy took a lot of time and careful thought, ably assisted by @sianharris.bsky.social and with AMAZING modules contributed by @athenahoeppener.bsky.social and Beda Kosata.
Klaxon alert! Delegate bookings for the Annual Conference are now open! dub.sh/OpKsP4B
