Petrol has been randomly jumping between $1.50 and $2.15 for weeks before the war. Solidifying on $2.15ish isn't news, at least not in my area. Call me when it's $3.
Was so pleased to spot these guys in the wild when in Vancouver in 2015

25 years ago I published a Transformers novel. 23 years ago it was reviewed in the Harvard Crimson. And zero years ago (i.e. now) you can buy Generation Mechs, about TFs and fan culture

WSJ reporting that the U.S. used Claude for the air strikes in Iran. Centcom has been using Claude "for intelligence assessments, target identification and simulating battle scenarios" www.wsj.com/livecoverage...
Overheard a tourist at breakfast yesterday - from Florida, back home has 4 guns, one in his car, carries one, because of "all the crazies with guns" - liked it here because there wasn't that problem...
City was packed yesterday, jammed with people shopping, chilling on the SLV lawn, watching buskers. The weather was awful (very humid) but people seemed to like it. Weirdos.
Job ad, with skills I have, for a charity, working in recycling... "you will use generative AI to..." oh ffs fk off.
Very talented and, fortunately for us, very prolific. If you were a regular reader of DC at anytime from the 1970s to the 1990s, you had the luxury of seeing a ton of her coloring work. In addition to her interior work, she colored a crazy amount of their covers. R.I.P.
Just learned that Tatjana Wood died recently at age 99. Her colors on things like Morrison/Truog's Animal Man, Simonson's Orion, the O'Neill/Cowan Question, and the Moore/Bissette/Everyone Else Swamp Thing left its marks on me when I was young and impressionable. A major, unsung comics legend.
It's been reported that Red Dwarf creator Rob Grant has died.
Well, smeg. :(

I can't decide if all the job ads I'm reading mention AI because it actually has infested all companies, or because they think potential employees want it? Personally it makes me immediately close the listing. But also, not a lot of AI-less jobs in IT.

Seeing Redd Kross next month @ The Tote
Saw Dallas Frasca and Sarah McLeod last night. Missed half of Dallas's set, but she came out for a long "encore" with Sarah at the end of Sarah's set which rocked pretty dang hard:

Photograph of a 4 piece band on a stage. On left a bald guitarist in dark chinos and a grey shirt faces away from the camera. Centre stage the singer is in red pants, spiffy jacket, hollow body guitar around his neck, his hands beside the mic while he sings. The bass player is half crouching down boogying to the grove on his green bass. The drummer is viably behind them.
Fantastic breakfast, all day at the library viewing old music mags, drinks and dinner with old work mates, then a quick gig at The Toff (The Acrobats). On train home. All days can be this nice plz.
Everybodyβs talking about the destruction of consumer electronics and thatβs bad, but basically everything in modern life has a computer in it. Hospitals, airports, transportation, shipping, medical devices, farm equipment, and point of sale terminals had a good run
Got a request to give my doctor a Google review? This is a thing now? Renewed my prescriptions, inspected my weird lumps, was charged twice the medicare rebate, seven out of ten, would reluctantly go again?
Don't you hate when you grocery shop early in the morning and now you're just sitting there waiting for lunch so you can eat all the rad stuff you bought?
Interested in some rare Nirvana In Utero promo stickers? I've had these for 30 years, time for them to move on.

Today I discovered that there are Ween CDs that have been out of print for so long they regularly sell for $60+ - but I learned this when reading about Ween releasing all their albums for cheap:

I dunno what flavour these were supposed to be, they were a bit chewy
Agree S&M is pretty great. It suffers a little from the difficulty of mixing orchestra with a rock band, the massive orchestra feeling a little bit background at times, but the compositions are excellent. No Leaf Clover is Metallica last truly great song.
Took the new metro from Town Hall to State Library just to try it out. Gotta say, loved it. Felt like a real city. Yes I had to walk just as far up and down as I would if I'd just walked up Swanston St, but where's the fun in that?
Picked up a copy of Enzso a while back, mostly because I was surprised how often you see it in op shops and was curious. It's not good is it? Usually love an orchestral album, and I like how different all the compositions are, but most of the orchestrations sapped all the rock.
