So sorry you're being subjected to such hateful fury. It's very telling. Thanks for your truth-telling and clarity which helps anchor us in such turbulent times. I'm going to get out my CW tea towel when I'm home, in solidarity!

Surry Hills street corner. Hints of Hopper. Saturday night wander, Sydney.
Tile refers to my Substack post and says: 'Reading Helen Garner: Follow the Spark. My May 2020 monthly snatch from my Covid journal/iso-diary. "Garner is a spotlight. Sometimes a floodlight, sometimes a small flash. I remember her saying at a literary panel: when writing, 'follow the spark.'"
Me on Helen Garner's Yellow Notebook: 'instruction manual, mirror, deep pool, harsh light, mortified whisper, enlightened eye, writing toolkit, psychotherapist, philosophical tweet, a coffee with a friend, a night of too many wines...' What joy in using these old things. Chipped paint, lost lives, Β£10 Pom history, disappearing letters and changing units of measurement...
A set of green vintage kitchen scales, filled with red lentils, on a slatted wooden table.
First time using farmhand Fred's #Persinware Culinary Scales! Labelled: 'To Weigh 4lbs. by 1/2 oz.' Had to use online converter to work out what 80g of red lentils isβclose enough to 3oz. Thanks Fred (& kind friend who gifted these to me, daughter of said farm.) #culinary #cooking #scales #vintage
Six chickens pose on a beachside bench. The rolling waves are behind them.
Good to see the "Chook Whisperer's" #chickens on the deck today. Elaine brings these beauties every Tuesday morning & will be back on Friday at the #opshop to read from her book of short stories 'Under my Wing'. They're pretty cool birds tho' I'm not sure I'm comfortable about touching them...π¬ππ
Can you believe this?! So flat and so clear. It's been a couple of weeks between swims & I feel transformed. β¨ #swimming
Began 2/4/20: 'There is beauty in many small things: the way the light comes into the tent; the birds, so close to me, feeding in the wet soil; the magpies singing all morning from high places: light poles, dry branches of the gum tree, a TV antenna...' notesofsubstance.substack.com/p/on-writing...
Loved reading this and seeing your art. Keep it up and congrats on publication!
Ship, sunrise, swim.
Opinion | University Australia's backing of a new definition of antisemitism will be devastating to the principles on which all universities are supposed to be built. Among them, equality.
"Independent artists, journalists, and politicians are silenced with predictable regularity, and we-the- people are corralled into ever-narrower publics where free speech is less an inherent democratic right than a dispensation doled out in microdoses from on high."

A graph showing that the richest 10% get $27.5bn in tax breaks from CGT discount on housing, negative gearing, and super tax concessions - more than the rest combined
Next time you hear someone ask how will the govt pay for <insert new spending on services> just remember right now the richest 10% get $27.5bn in tax breaks on just super, and negative gearing and the capital gains discount on housing

Two dishes of food and an aperol spritz on a beach towel with clouds and sunset behind.
Seagull fly-by, sunset glisk, golden rays across the ocean

Art and silence.
My @smh @theage cartoon.
Great read! I still wear clothes I bought in G St vintage shops. I'll never forget bumping into Nick Cave in a Greville St cafe back in the early 90s. He was smoking a ciggie. I was a rabid anti-smoker. I deliberately breathed in his foul expelled air.

Timed my run to get home for 9am @theshot.net.au #SundayShot Looking forward to it! Anthony Klan, Rachel Withers, Dave Milner, Jo Dyer. 'Dogs barking, Anthony dropping out, Episode 1.' π Here's to many more episodes. (Nice t-shirt Jo! I love mine too #Always ) #NotInsiders

Ten cast members from the MTC play '37', sitting on benches on stage, discuss the production post-performance with the MTC Head of New Works.
Brilliant MTC production of '37', a play that takes on truth-telling, team
unity, division, racism & holding true to values. The choreography of the footy dance scenes is so beautiful. Q to the cast: 'what would you men tell young men?' 'Listen more.' 'Don't stay silent when you see/hear racism.' ππΌβ¨
Golden sun glows low over the dark ocean. Three swimmers are silhouetted, standing in the water; there are jagged rocks in the foreground.
Dark clouds hang over Point Nepean. The sun is throwing golden light over the ocean. Two lines of small incoming waves mark the gentle swell.
It was hard to know whether to run or swim this beautiful morning, so I did both! The dolphins came by again. I'm by myself for three days & the relief is enormous. β¨ #running #swimming #dawn #peace
A white towel, with the words 'Don't Read the Herald Sun' in red and black text, hangs on a beach bench with the flat sea in the background.
Good ol' H-S indeed. Went for a swim this morning. It was beautiful! Dolphins in the sunrise sea, heat building & my fab @theshot.net.au towel which just makes so much sense.
As an Aussie, most of us learn to swim when we are kids. But I had never swum in the sea beyond my standing depth until a year or so ago. (You can read about it at my pinned post.) I am aghast and delighted when I look around and realise what I'm doing. I realise I'm lucky to live near the coast.
I have recently found a love affair with swimming in the sea. This was today, at 7am, and I was immersed for 50 minutes.
Three colours blue: sea, horizon sea, sky.
Ooooh, thought of your series while watching a storm roll in this afternoon. Three colours blue. ππ
