I always follow the advice of those more learned than me, but I have to say, that has rather upset my dinner plans.

Make it SNAPpy! Paracetamol overdoses inΒ teenagers
Paracetamol poisoning is an uncommon, but not rare, event in children. The treatment of choice is NAC. Should we be giving them the SNAP protocol?
Great books! We were just talking this evening about how weβre surprised they havenβt been televised. Maybe one day.
Brexit has caused almost twice as much damage to the UK economy than estimated by official forecasts, according to new paper from a group of experts including a senior Bank of England economist
GPs up & down the country warned Wes Streeting, Department of Health and Social Care 6w ago that forcing the implementation of online forms without safeguards was a fools errand & raise false expectations

Always amazes me that there were over 6 times as many cannon at Trafalgar than at Waterloo. They were significantly heavier too!
In 30years I have never been this upset with the words coming out of Government
This includes a plethora of Tory Health Secretaries
I am not part of BMA leadership
I am just a GP who gives up his time freely to advocate for patients, the NHS & make sure the facts are correct
Iβm a GP trainer. My ST3 trainees have a minimum of 9years pre and post grad training. Iβm often discussing diagnoses they havenβt heard of or havenβt considered. How a PA would think that after 2 years of a low academic vigour course they would magically be any better is beyond me.
Sadly I think NHSE hold a similar view.
Cookies! What an excellent idea! π
Same here on the outskirts of Exmoor. Fire is on and weβre decorating the living room to 90s rave tracks. π
Vaccines save lives. Keep repeating the message. Itβs the truth.
Interesting superstition I came across on moving to Somerset - some consider Robins a portent of death. This is apparently neutralised by saying the powerful incantation βnot today thank you Mr Robinβ. Nonsense, of course, but curiously difficult not to do once you know about it!
GPs PART-TIME WORKING or ARE THEY?
The data used by NHS Digital underestimates the hours GPs work is being used in error to estimate GP workload
It is based on βContracted hoursβ
9 x 4hr 10min sessions (half days) making 37.5hrs Full Time
But that is likely to be 50-60hrsπ§΅

De-resisting
This is accurate
These are hard numbers to see but they are absolutely representative of how difficult things are in Emergency Departments right now, let alone what they'll be like as Winter really sets in.
We will always do our best, but our best won't be enough, not for everyone.
That is the tragedy we face.
βOvertreatment of men with limited longevity for intermediate- and high-risk tumors has not only failed to improve but has actually worsened over the last 20 years,β rbnc.cc/over @mgtmccartney.bsky.social
Happy birthday!! π
GPs work for the NHS, provide services for the NHS, are paid by the NHS for 90% of income
This is a key & important difference with private healthcare providers
They are not shareholders taking the profit, they are the workers providing the patient care

Thread for those new to BlueSky. First of all, welcome. It feels like a safer space, doesnβt it? But also perhaps a bit disorienting initially? Hereβs some tips for getting your bearings.
The Budget, NI rises and GPs
Drs are divided as to whether this blow is deliberate harm or just incompetence. It's possible that the govt will find a way to compensate, but it is unlikely that this will make good the damage to trust & goodwill inflicted by this budget.
