I always follow the advice of those more learned than me, but I have to say, that has rather upset my dinner plans.

Great books! We were just talking this evening about how we’re surprised they haven’t been televised. Maybe one day.

GPs up & down the country warned Wes Streeting, Department of Health and Social Care 6w ago that forcing the implementation of online forms without safeguards was a fools errand & raise false expectations

Have now decided not to talk to @BMA_GP @doctor_katie @DavidGWrigley

Always amazes me that there were over 6 times as many cannon at Trafalgar than at Waterloo. They were significantly heavier too!

In 30years I have never been this upset with the words coming out of Government

This includes a plethora of Tory Health Secretaries

I am not part of BMA leadership

I am just a GP who gives up his time freely to advocate for patients, the NHS & make sure the facts are correct

I’m a GP trainer. My ST3 trainees have a minimum of 9years pre and post grad training. I’m often discussing diagnoses they haven’t heard of or haven’t considered. How a PA would think that after 2 years of a low academic vigour course they would magically be any better is beyond me.

Interesting superstition I came across on moving to Somerset - some consider Robins a portent of death. This is apparently neutralised by saying the powerful incantation ’not today thank you Mr Robin’. Nonsense, of course, but curiously difficult not to do once you know about it!

GPs PART-TIME WORKING or ARE THEY?

The data used by NHS Digital underestimates the hours GPs work is being used in error to estimate GP workload

It is based on β€˜Contracted hours’
9 x 4hr 10min sessions (half days) making 37.5hrs Full Time

But that is likely to be 50-60hrs🧡

I'm looking for three doctors to write on the question of what to do if you’re expected to undertake a task that doesn’t fit into your role. If interested please email arimmer@bmj.com and I can share more info. Thank you!

These are hard numbers to see but they are absolutely representative of how difficult things are in Emergency Departments right now, let alone what they'll be like as Winter really sets in.

We will always do our best, but our best won't be enough, not for everyone.

That is the tragedy we face.

GPs work for the NHS, provide services for the NHS, are paid by the NHS for 90% of income
This is a key & important difference with private healthcare providers
They are not shareholders taking the profit, they are the workers providing the patient care

Thread for those new to BlueSky. First of all, welcome. It feels like a safer space, doesn’t it? But also perhaps a bit disorienting initially? Here’s some tips for getting your bearings.

The Budget, NI rises and GPs
Drs are divided as to whether this blow is deliberate harm or just incompetence. It's possible that the govt will find a way to compensate, but it is unlikely that this will make good the damage to trust & goodwill inflicted by this budget.

Looking at 2022/23 GP pay data

GP partner earnings fell back to 2018/19 levels following a couple of elevated years mostly due to Covid vaccine income

Salaried GPs are flat compared to 2019/20

Partners are -19.3% and salaried GPs -17.9% in real terms compared to 2006/07

Yet 20% more appts done
