We hate kids. Like SO MUCH. We vote for the guns. We vote for the bombs. We protect the rapists. We have LEOs physically restraining parents from trying to save their children in Uvalde. We just blew up a school in Iran. We love Jeffrey Epstein and his friends. They run the country.
“The victims were between seven and 12 years old, according to Iran's Tasnim and Fars news agencies.”
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Anyway, that’s why I responded the way I did- it’s a fight I’ve been in for a long time. (actively and, often, successfully but never without significant resistance to opening IB classes to everyone).
I taught too many sections of classes with a maybe a couple of Black or Latino students in majority minority schools earlier in my career. It’s inequitable and, if not actively racist, certainly a consequence of racism in standardized testing, the hierarchical nature of school, etc.
Tracking and sorting of students starts early, and many are “not prepared” for the advanced coursework- but what are schools doing to support and challenge all kinds of learners so their options are limited by the time they get to HS? To proactively create a climate where all students feel welcome
It’s still that way in many public schools. I’ve taught in 5 IB HS schools in multiple states, and 3/5 were application-based. In every school, students were disproportionately white. AP classes are often the same way.
I didn’t intend to criticize or insult you & I’m sorry I wasn’t more thoughtful w/ my response. I thought it was important to say IB isn’t an exclusive program. It has that reputation because some schools advertise or recruit for students by characterizing it as elite, often w/ harmful consequences.
Many public (free) schools in the United States offer the IB program.
I’ve been an IB teacher for 30 years. IB is not a program for “gifted” students. It is a course of study for any student who wants a rigorous academic program that teaches critical and creative thinking. The IBO is explicitly inclusive and does not gatekeep a good education as a “gifted” label might
This is such an important piece, and I can’t wait to buy the book! I’ve been shouting about this topic from the rooftops for nearly 30 years as an English teacher 😀
He forgot to mention the War on Christmas!
Please consider this @senbillferg.bsky.social
dweebass 😂
Students “had outsourced that level of thinking…”
“couldn't always discern whether what AI generated was valuable or not…
“and they still needed to build foundational skills…”
@heymrsbond.com asks the essential question (my caps):
“WHERE ARE THOSE SKILLS GOING TO BE BUILT IF NOT HERE?" 💯💯💯
Or the catastrophic effect on the immigrant community (and anyone who is kidnapped, abused, deported, murdered).
Thank you for not voting to fund ICE @vanhollen.senate.gov I’m proud to be your constituent! You get my vote every time 🇺🇸
This from @andreapitzer.bsky.social is key.
“nobody sane now thinks the answer to abuses at Dachau was to give the guards more training.”
“allegedly suffered…”
“allegedly suffered…”
It needs an “allegedly.”
And DHS in like 2003! It doesn’t HAVE TO continue to exist!
🤩
100%! The tomes I’ve written at every opportunity!
Wishing you a peaceful holiday season and a joyful new year.
I am required to use Canvas by my school district. I have Modules as my home page, organized by weeks, and use it to post slides and Google LTI assignments only. Everything else is hidden in StudentVue. It at least makes navigation easier for the students. Most of my assignment say “on paper.”
I’m having the same issue and consequently can read your posts easily. I love them!
I am so sorry for your loss. Your mother sounds amazing and very much like my mother, who died on Thursday. May her memory be a blessing; my mom’s is, too. 💔❤️
so gross
