In #MathsToday from a random pile of counters to an array.
What actually made a difference in counting was the physical touching of the counters with two fingers simultaneously. That slight adaptation provided the connection with the counting in twos, not circling around the groups of two.

In this case, it was much needed to use real-life examples to connect with #subitising 4 and 6. As my student was finding it tricky to recall them as fluently as they recall subitising 1, 2, 3 and 5.
