Inverness community considers takeover of 123-year-old prison
HMP Inverness is to be vacated when a new prison opens in the city.
Green spaces and a community hub - great idea for a disused prison. Would love similar ideas considered for Barlinnie.

BBC Radio 4 - Waiting for the Van
The story of one man's attempt to challenge fifty years of UK drug policy.
The UK's 1st drugs consumption room opens in Glasgow next week after many hurdles & amidst fierce scrutiny. Here's my R4 documentary on Peter Krykant's unsanctioned van, which focused minds and without which the new site would never have come into being. mfl www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

Since weβre talking about how much billionaires suck again, hereβs a reminder that your local indie bookstore deserves your business this holiday season. They have gift cards and are happy to mail stuff out. Same goes for @bookshop-org.bsky.social. Buy books. Give books. Support bookstores.

Dr Andrew Woof stands behind a computer desk, while Dr Brunilda Pali stands behind a lectern. To the near left a screen displays the talk title, Restorative Justice in Environmental Harms and Conflicts.
Black and white image of Dr Pali at the lectern.
Thank you to @edinburghnapier.bsky.social colleagues for hosting the annual @thesccjr.bsky.social gathering and lecture today, and the inspired and inspiring choice of Brunilda Pali to deliver the lecture.

I agree. It's Mantel's books which are incomparably good and make TV adaptations a logical next step.

SNP progress on Scotlandβs buckling prison system is head-bangingly slow
By Dani Garavelli
My @heraldscotland.bsky.social column on the new earlier release legislation: a step in the right direction, but so much more to be done to reverse the damage of sentence inflation, and to make meaningful rehabilitation possible. www.heraldscotland.com/politics/vie...

Wings of 15th century altarpiece. The leftmost depicts the trinity. A robed man on a throne, a dove and christ in a loincloth. Next, the patron kneeling in prayer. In the third St Andrew looks over James III of Scotland and his son in prayer. He carries his cross. The lion rampant is on a shield at the rear. In the final panel, Margaret of Denmark prays under the watch of St George.
Happy St Andrew's day to Scots, fishers, rope makers, and anyone in fear of a sore throat.
Please enjoy this altarpiece by Hugo van der Goes, displayed at the National Gallery of Scotland.
