Biodiversity collapse threatens UK security, intelligence chiefs warn
Ecosystem destruction will increase food shortages, disorder and mass migration, with effects already being felt
All those who wrongly believe that nature collapse might be 'sad', but won't really affect them in any way, badly need to wake up.
Nature isn't just 'nice to have'.
Planet Earth is only liveable β for *us* too β due to the regulating effects of natural ecosystems.

So happy to have a sound piece - a blend of poetry, prose & field recordings from the Donna Nook grey seal breeding colony in Lincolnshire - in the new issue of Ambient Receiver.
I'm a big fan of this journal, which focuses on exploring 'the dynamic & complex entanglement of human & more-than-human'

Such a pleasure to be guest reader in Llansteffan, at an event exploring how we might deepen our connection with the more-than-human world. I shared prose from Where the Seals Sing, poetry from Words the Turtle Taught Me & there was stimulating conversation, art by Romola Parish & a lively open mic.

A young fox-red labrador sits on a rocky outcrop above a bay encircled by cliffs. He is wearing a red collar and harness and panting as the day is warm. The sky is bright blue with some wispy clouds. The sea is a deeper blue colour and very calm.
Overlooking Aber Felin, the bay that's at the heart of my nature memoir, 'Where the Seals Sing'. Acer and I watched - and listened to the howls of - a small haul-out of pregnant cow seals. Not long now till the pupping season gets underway.

Supersized stick insect discovered in high-altitude trees in Australia
The 40cm-long insect, named Acrophylla alta, weighs slightly less than a golf ball and may be the heaviest insect in Australia
Like the old-growth coastal redwoods that host whole other ecosystems in their spires, these extraordinary Australian stick insects reveal not only the richness and mystery of mature forest canopies but how vital their protection is for countless forms of life.
