This was my first time checking out Alejandro AmenΓ‘bar's (The Others) debut film #Thesis and MAN what a debut. Why did Joel Schumacher make 8MM when he could have just remade this?
A dark haired man in a black turtleneck touches the chin of a shorter dark haired woman wearing a red striped flannel shirt
Plus: AmenΓ‘bar's queer and Franco fascism influences, 90s technology, and a sexy murder dream
A dark haired woman touches the image of a man on a TV screen
The snuff film thriller is led by an enterprising College student surrounded by hot men, any of whom might be the balacava-wearing killer seen on screen. And while the reveal isn't exactly a whodunnit, the 2+ hour film is never boring.
Hide your camcorder and don't drop out of film school because we're talking Spanish writer/director Alejandro AmenΓ‘bar's 1996 feature film debut, Thesis (or Tesis)
Yessss
A woman in a white collared shirt and brown blazer stares down at a seated man, with a fuzzy projection on a large screen behind her
Tomorrow on the Main feed: weβre kicking off March with a look at THESIS, the feature film debut of Alejandro AmenΓ‘bar (director of THE OTHERS), which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
Donβt sleep on this one; itβs really good and readily available on Shudder!
Absolutely wild!
Plus: a full timeline of the complicated production; wanting more Gale & the Meeks-Martin twins; a rant about questionable marketing ties; and where Scream 8 should go.
Is this the weakest entry in the franchise? The critic scores say yes, but the opening weekend Box Office says no.
We're...somewhere in the middle: we love that first act, but the screenplay's lack of commentary on the genre and the predictable killer(s) reveal are shit.
Today on Patreon: Stock up on your Little Latte order because we are headed to Pine Grove to lure Sidney Prescott...er...Evans out of retirement with Kevin Williamson's #Scream7.
Not a rant, but definitely some issues
Tomorrow on Patreon: we're checking out SCREAM 7 and we have A LOT to say, so settle in for a supersized 2 hour 40 minute episode
OFFICIAL TRAILER: 1000 WOMEN IN HORROR premieres on Shudder (on X) March 20.

Itβs a new month, so Iβve got a new list of Tubi recommendations for you to check out (via @bloody-disgusting.com)
Nope!
Today on Patreon: It's time for Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Julian Hilliard to take center stage for The Haunting of Hill House's Luke-centric fourth episode, which isnβt quite as strong as the others.
I mean, theyβre in that season of FARGO and sheβs incredible in BIRDS OF PREY
Just that!
Weβre a week and a smidge early, but yeah - next month

While Trace was away, Joe reunited with @joshuatonks.bsky.social to discuss Kevin Williamson's 1999 directorial debut.
With his return to the director's chair with Scream 7, expect plenty of speculation about both direction and script, which was notoriously toned down in the wake of Columbine.
Practice your sewing skills because we're moving into the bunker with Dan Trachtenberg's 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE (2016).
Starring a powerhouse trio, the spiritual sequel - or is it shared cinematic universe? - is a tense potboiler that we can easily see working as a play.

Tomorrow on Patreon: our Feb audio commentary is an early celebration of the 10th anniversary of 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE
Iβve watched Scream VI many, many times since this recording and iirc, my main gripe with it back then was the killer reveal, which I now love. π€·π»ββοΈ
