Personal account so expect eclecticism. Law, politics, SFF books, anime, gaming, music. Queer stuff. Day job = Administrative law and public law theory.

Oh nice! I've also really enjoyed motorola's recent handsets, so the combination of the two is a really attractive proposition.

Yes! If you like Killjoys, read @stephengrahamking.com’s Soul’s Blood. Yes, it’s even queerer than Killjoys, and that’s saying something.

Got a lovely flock of hihi at Zealandia yesterday; as you say clustered around the sugar water feeders.

Congratulations, Anthony. And completely well deserved. A type of prolonged storytelling I've not seen in mainstream comics before.

My ICQ UIN is 7231680. That number is burned into my consciousness. I inadvertently learned that you could see private conversations in public chat rooms when using Telnet instead of a browser on GeoCities. I can tell you the difference in audible dial-up handshakes between 1200, 2400, 14.4 kbps modems. I needed a edu email address to join Facebook after my university was admitted. We were here at the beginning. We made social media. You wouldn't be in my Top 8. I have usernames older than you.

Funnily enough 2 of the 3 most accurate here are from the main parties' in-house pollsters. Kantar (the One News crowd) the most accurate 'independent' one, but it got no closer than curia.

06.03.2026 01:35 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

In this case it's not even two ideas! It's two different categories that different, not incompatible, things apply to.

Curia issue polling: trash

Curia political numbers: actually really accurate the last two elections.

Ignore the former, take the latter into account in the general polling mix.

Their straight political polls have been the most accurate for the past twice elections. Agree their issue polling is garbage.

We could do worse than work towards what the infrastructure commission just recommended. Well see over the next 5 years if there's any will to do that.

Politicians have lied about what shit costs and what our capacity is for a good 50 years. And we've - collectively, in terms of electoral majorities - enjoyed being lied to. The most frequent voters now will punish those who tell the truth about either (right lies about costs, left about capacity).

I remember having a conversation with you on Twitter during 2020 to the effect that we'd regret not having just a little bit of autarky in NZ, for a treat. Think that's been reasonably well borne out.

I think there are far more interesting and far less problematic verses out there to explore.

Or, how about this: All the dialogue is in Chinese, except the cursing, which is in English.

Interesting is how I'd describe it too. Ultimately came to the conclusion it's best seen as a very good sign for the author's *next* novel.

Y'all. Read this book. A beautiful, Borgesian jewel of a novella on identity, belonging, and the nature of self. In Das's typically top shelf prose.

No I just mean if you do "holiday to Cornwall," add this to the list of potential activities.

(I did holiday in cornwall last time I was in the UK. Highly recommend.)

Very important response setting out the Ombudsman's views on the use of AI in govt decision-making. Notably, there is a need to record reasons, and failing to do so creates a serious risk of the decision being deemed unreasonable.

Actually accessible to you if you haven't, Roseanna, go see some Shakespeare at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall. Don't think there's a more physically astonishing place to see theatre.

A hard, uncompromising standalone fantasy of the cost of revenge and what it takes to unseat an unjust king. Grim without being grimdark, hopeful without being remotely cozy, people and principles are compromised and things are lost to the achieve what might(?) be justice. Has a few structural flaws at the beginning and the end, but ultimately the excellent character work carries it & makes for a hugely impressive debut novel. A broadly queernorm world with a bisexual main character. This one was badly under-read.

On this World Book Day, writing up notes for my quixotic 2020 Not An Award for queer SFF, out early next week.

My comments on 1 book on the honour list: if you've read it (sadly not many did) you'll know what it is, if you haven't... wait until Monday!
