Truly amazing how people have always underestimated Trump's stupidity. From Mattis onward, people keep thinking he's not really as dumb as he looks on TV, only to be shown over and over that he's actually worse than they could possibly have imagined.

He was rich (or at least he was able to live a rich lifestyle) and for so many people rich = successful= smart. No matter how dumb he acts, how many businesses he killed, he was always able to fly in his own jet to meetings with world leaders broadcast on TV. Must be a genius!

This is really the key. My favorite story from Term 1 was when the SecDef and Secretary of State had a briefing to teach him about the Rules Based International Order because they thought he didn't know about it because obviously if he knew, he'd embrace it.
