Very disappointing that yet again the British government has failed to invite any UN human rights experts to brief the UNSC meeting on Myanmar tomorrow.

And yet again the focus is not on how the Burmese military are violating numerous UNSC resolutions.

And it's held in private.

It is wrong to stop people fleeing war and persecution from having the ability to come to the UK legally and claim asylum. The Home Office's proposals punish vulnerable populations and are using these communities as scapegoats.

I have written to the Home Secretary to outline my deep concerns.

Myanmar Junta Grants Amnesties to More Than 7,300 Political Prisoners The release is designed to reinforce the legitimacy of the incoming β€œcivilian” administration and communicate signals of reform to foreign governments.

β€œThe Burmese military, fighting for their survival, are cynically using political prisoners as a propaganda tool; this is not a sign of reform,” Mark Farmaner, the group’s director, said in the statement.
