After a two-shuttle project, a one-shuttle weave feels so much faster!
Always grateful to you! π
A little two shuttle gift weaving
Lol! The rabbit holes are endless. I started with making band weaving heddles, using an article that @kerstinneumuller.bsky.social published in VΓV magazine...and it opened up a whole world for me!
Two supported spindles made of dark wood are lying on a wooden table. The spindles each hold a cheerfully chubby cop of spun singles yarn, in colours of pink and blue. To the left of the singles is a twisted skein of wool, in the same colours.
Spindle spinning for loom weaving. The skein is 411 m / 50 g of 2-ply. The spindles should yield similar stats. Fibre is from Northbound Knitting in Barrie, Ontario
I wouldn't listen to it back then, but I will these days. Partly nostalgia, and partly I have more respect for corniness as I get older
Joining a guild is a great idea! Often you can rent equipment and borrow books. Spinning is a fantastic craft, and I hope you enjoy it thoroughly!
Two project bags, one with a zipper closure and one with a drawstring closure, are on a wooden table in a cluttered workspace. The main fabric of the bags is handwoven, and the base of each bag is commercial linen. In the foreground is a band weaving project in progress, on a handcarved rigid heddle.
And here we have the reason I wove this fabric: to sew project bags

The more I weave, the more I love it

A weaving project in process, on a 4-shaft table loom. The yarn is colourful handspun Romney wool, and the draft is Wall of Troy twill.
Finally back at the loom today

Never too many spindles! π
Thank you! It's sw merino/nylon from by CDick Designs (who no longer dyes)
The metallic effect is so lovely, I can't bear to cover it up with another layer. Time to start another spindle, I guess.

And if you need some guidance, you can take a look at @fossilfibers.bsky.social website. They have a post about fleece imperfections, and an excellent scouring method: Percentage Based Scour Method by Fossil Fibers and LongDrawJames | Fossil Fibers share.google/4BYtvyIsZapA...
Yes, scouring is washing to remove dirt and lanolin. Have fun with your first!
I seem to recall Kim McKenna doing a segment on spinning with a hand distaff in her Working From Fleece at the School of Sweet Georgia. But I also have a distaff highlight over on ig, if you want to take a look there
β€οΈ to you too!
A spinning wheel with a jumbo bobbin of 2-ply yarn in blues and dark brown/black
An overhead view of a wheel spinning corner, with a modern Saxony spinning wheel, an antique wooden chair, and a homemade lazy kate
A blending board holding a layer of dyed Merino fibre in various blues and browns, with a layer of naturally coloured black/brown Romeldale fibre over it
Tour de Fleece day 3, no team, just vibes, Brenna @senesced.bsky.social style!
Today I'm plying up a blend of one part local Romeldale to two parts indie-dyed Merino, making yarn to knit a sleeveless top.
Two clear plastic bags are on a wooden table, and in the foreground, the sweetest note is being held aloft in my hand
Washed locks of the most beautiful black wool with brown tips are scattered on a tabletop. The wool was shorn from Gwen, a ewe tended by @shepherdessofbs.bsky.social
Raw buck wool locks from a Merino ram by the name of Carmy, suitably light caramel in colour and looking delectable, also from the flock of Erin @shepherdessofbs.bsky.social
Coming home to some woolly mail from a friend must be the best way to start the weekend. Thank you @amivice.bsky.social for this beautiful package of wool grown by the flock of @shepherdessofbs.bsky.social, I can't wait to play with this treasure!

Recent wool scouring led to some really beautiful little bundles of hand combed top
I love it! Watching people weave well is such a pleasure. And an education.
The sweater is knit
Omg, I can definitely hear her saying that!
I got mine last month, and didn't feel a thing during or after. I hope yours goes as well!
I'm sorry for your loss.
