Evidence shows that London-wide, cycling infrastructure is effective in
reducing risk exposure:
 Protected cycling infrastructure reduces injury risk to people
cycling by 40-65%.
 Around 33% of all cycling in London occurs on Cycleways, but
only 15% of cycle casualties.
 76% of people cycling feel safe on Cycleways compared to 40%
feeling safe on other roads.
 70% of Cycleway users felt safer after the introduction of the
Cycleway.

Road safety factors are more likely to be attributed to the driver of (recorded in 2024)
the other vehicle than people cycling, with three of top five
factors relating to behaviour of other drivers.
• People cycling undertaking an illegal turn and/or not complying
with traffic lights is a factor in only 3.7% of all collisions resulting
in a cycling fatal or serious injury (same prevalence as drivers
undertaking illegal turns and/or not complying with traffic lights).

A 2023 analysis showed that in the 2016-22
period, we saw a greater reduction in risk in
boroughs where the Cycleway network expanded
the most. Conversely, risk increased most in
boroughs with no or limited investment in
Cycleways.

You'd think Reform would be delighted that a white, working class plumber got elected and they beat the metropolitan elite university lecturer.

This is grossly unfair. Your father was a tabloid monster LONG before his death, from at least the Board of Trade report in 1971 onwards.

Yes, sectarian Muslims voting for a white female plumber from a party led by a gay Jewish man... Am guessing none of the other parties will learn the right lessons from this result for their own different reasons.

And that 30% of voters willing to go to Reform/Tory/Advance/Restore is starting to look like it's closer to a ceiling than a floor. British voters can see through Farage's lies, and his claims to be different from the Tories who have wrecked Britain while he's let half of them join his party.

TRAM TRACKS, CYCLISTS & CRASHES:

About two-thirds of Sheffield's tram network is on-road, with a lot of cycle crashes as a result.

In search of information regarding solutions to this that have been or are being trialled or implemented elsewhere.

Grateful for retweets to extend reach.

If only we weren’t so siloed in our budgeting.

The gains for public health budgets from enabling a physically active population are immense.

Safe routes for cycling are an investment in health more than a cost for transport budgets. 👇

This is somewhere between 40-50% of deployable US air power (and it’s still growing). On a scale with the Gulf Wars.

Again, all of these are conservative values. North sea offshore is amongst the most productive in the world, often closer to 5000 Wh/year per W installed, and modern onshore is often 3000 Wh/W/year. At more realist, less conservative values, this is closer to 17%, or 1/6th of UK current demand.

10.02.2026 12:46 👍 4 🔁 2 💬 0 📌 0

The 8.3 GW offshore capacity that was secured in Jan adds a further ~9.7% of current demand (at about 3500 Wh/year per W installed (offshore wind is *very* efficient)). So in this two-part auction we have secured 1/8th of total UK demand, to be installed in under 4 years, all at below market prices.

10.02.2026 12:28 👍 9 🔁 4 💬 1 📌 0

To put some of these numbers in context:
UK electricity demand is currently around 300 TWh/year.

Conservatively, every W of installed capacity produces ~1000 Wh/year (solar)/~2000 Wh/year (on-shore wind).

So this auction provides 7.5 TWh/year, 2.5% of total electricity consumption.

That's the decision to make, certainly. I considered separate front and rear cameras - but eventually opted for a single helmet mounted one for ease. +- for both.

The 2 pieces of footage you have sent, I have to say is truly impressive. What camera system are you using?

These 2 individuals have been processed for driving whilst using a mobile device.

The footage is excellent, with no ambiguity.

I second the "I know you said not on the helmet but..." thoughts. I have a 360 max helmet mounted and it captures everything - plus, when wearing it I feel like I get fewer close passes (subjective, I know, but it is a visible warning). Low light could be better, though - X5 wins on that front.

It would be interesting to have this same level of voting intention compared directly with the equivalent from the mid 00's, for example. It might show how the age groups are shifting with time i.e. have the 2026 50-64 group become more right leaning than their younger 35-49 selves in say 2005?

ONS defines the limits of the latter, boundaries for the former were set out when they became cities (hence Nottingham, which had a population of around 100k less than Sheffield when they became cities, has smaller boundaries)
