Tchrs are happy when their students do well & earn awards. Tchrs are puzzled when exam gradez yield inconsistent results: students who can barely put sentences together getting scores of Advanced on writing? Students who are native speakers scoring Intermediate low on writing? (3/) #langchat #edusky
I don’t love that its earning is determined by test scores alone, so we are at the mercy of testing companies for the process (mainly two). (2/)

It depends on the year, but i sometimes teach Level 2. There is a push in Level 3 to go beyond talking about oneself (Intermediate). I’m wondering, however, if the issue lies in earlier levels.

I don’t even know where to start to get them back on track. Grammar lessons/activities? More input before writing? More rewrites? I do have some kids who are doing better, but very few. Also wonder how much effort/motivation is playing into this.

-using correct verbs for vocabulary but not even attempting to conjugate them
-misspelling words from our unit that they have been exposed to repeatedly
-forgetting agreement of nouns/adjectives

Help, #langchat! My Fr 3 students’ writing has lots of problems! While effort is there in some aspects, here’s what I’m noticing:
-lots of translating from English to French, resulting in grammatically incorrect sentences (ex: la reine chateau for the queen’s castle) (1/3)

Grading and giving feedback has been tough. My energy is just not there!
Teaching AP for the first time is challenging! And then the exam changes for 2026!
6) I’m leading a 2 week homestay trip to France in February and chaperoning a multi day 9th graders bus trip to Quebec in the spring.
This year has been CHALLENGING!!
5) My Level 5 AP/Honors class is comprised of both juniors and seniors, but the juniors are all Francophones but not enrolled in AP. I have no idea what I’m going to do with them come 4th quarter, when we’re in full AP prep mode.
4) My French 1 classes are mainly 8th graders, BUT there are a few 9th graders in each section. Grading is a nightmare because not only do I have to switch gradebooks by school every time I enter grades, but each school has different grading periods (quarters v. trimesters)
3) I’m teaching French 1, a level I haven’t taught in about 10 years.
2) I’m .6 high school & .4 middle school French teacher this year. I have NEVER taught anything below 9th grade in my 27 year career (luckily, the buildings are connected and the students come to me)
