Something extremely poignant about this
Okay, so I am definitely going to have to go freelance, at least for a while. So, if anyone has any advice on actually building up and finding freelance policy and comms works, including providing media and advocacy training, campaign planning and strategy please let me know.
Regarding the questions whether data centres may be denied grid access (or worse, displace industrial electrification): The Danish national TSO has a 63GW backlog of connection requests (vs a current total 7GW demand) and is now asking the government for permission to say no to more data centres.
Time series plot depicting predicted Nino 3.4 region ocean temperature anomalies from the latest (Mar 2026) ECMWF ensemble. It depicts an extremely rapid rise in such temperatures, from modest negative anomalies to strong positive anomalies, by mid-summer 2026--indicative of a transition from weak-moderate La Nina conditions to moderate-strong El Nino conditions over just a few months.
Whew.
All signs are increasingly pointing to a significant, if not strong to very strong, El NiΓ±o event. I'll have more to say in coming weeks & months, but for now I'll just say that this is increasingly likely to become a major regional-to-global climate driver in 2026-2027.
Meanwhile
Incredibly normal to be banging on the door of the Quakers repeatedly but allowing literal organisations such as Britain first to stalk homes of refugees and domestic violence survivors every weekend.
Totally normal is this government. Not worried at all.
100%. At least he is (mostly) being left to get on with it; effectively all the good stuff the government has done since 2024 has Edβs fingerprints on!
In my corner of London, we've barely had frost over the winter.
South Dakota's "Meth. We're on it" campaign
I'll always remember Kristi Noem for the "Meth. We're on it." campaign.
So good! π₯π₯π₯

π¨ Techno-optimism reduces willingness to address climate change π¨
In a new preprint, @maiensachis.bsky.social, @fdabl.bsky.social, and I examined the causal effect of techno-optimist beliefs on the willingness to contribute to addressing climate change.

Great post as always. That we haven't prevented it doesn't make it unpreventable
Quietly, calmly and forensically, BBC just dismantled the Trump communications shitshow on Iran.
No hyperbole, just laying out an unprecedented military, diplomatic and reputational shambles.
Worth a watch.

Screenshot from Telegraph daily newsletter Today we can reveal the source of Sir Keir Starmer's hesitation over Iran. It was Ed Miliband. Tony Diver, our new Political Editor, has the full story.
Just imagine the depths of uselessness and ghastliness this government could achieve if it didnβt have Ed Miliband in it
This is so great. Over the last 12 years beavers have gone from something that governments wanted rid of and few of the NGOs cared about, to being recognised as a native species right across GB. Well done to all those who campaigned to get us here.
βOakeshott did not move to Dubai because she was persecuted in the United Kingdom, nor did she immigrate to flee censorship or imprisonment.
She moved, in her own words, for tax reasons, specifically VAT on private schooling - something that makes her, say it with me, an economic migrant.β

As revealed by my colleague @adambienkov.bsky.social last year, the BBC drew up a strategy to appeal more to Reform voters.
Might be waiting a while for them to do the same for Green voters...
I wrote about how the US and Israel carried out an attack on an Iranian girls school on par with the OKC bombing and US media relegated it to a back page story. No stand alone evening news segments, no front page stories, it made A11 in the NYT then everyone moved on.
Energy independence is consistently one of the most powerful pro-Net Zero arguments among voters.
They back renewables over fossil fuel as the solution and it's not particularly close.
Bit baffled that Govt is not hammering this more loudly in light of Iran. Pushing at an open door.
βInstead of sitting on these vital insights, the government should release the full report, along with a clear plan on how it is going to take action to reduce and tackle themβ.

Relatedly: over half of all the freight moved on Indian Railways is coal. Ditching coal power would release huge amounts of rail network capacity to take lorries off roads in India
Shipping is often seen as a hard to abate sector of the economy. While itβs true that it is a challenge to power a container ship with zero fossil fuels, just getting rid of fossil fuels as a thing we move around the worldβs oceans cuts shipping sector emissions by a whopping 40%.
