My favourite time of the year, first seeds planted, aubergines, peppers and chillis, and some lettuces. Spring is sprunging!

πStand Up, Speak Out! is back & we're on a mission to build new narratives of dignity and solidarity.
Racist, hostile narratives on migration are emboldening the far right & bearing directly on our communities. Itβs time to tell a different story.

Just to clarify: s11 IMA23, (all of it, but in relation to this conversation, provisions that relate to detention of children) IS being repealed, and NOT retained. What does this leave in force in relation to children in detention?
I have been trying to figure this out too!
Itβs important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too.
Not all of it can be broadcast online, but weβve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more.
Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.
Our memories are not so short that we don't remember that the Lib Dems were also happy to align themselves with the Tories when given a shot at power.
The Tories banned people arriving in the UK by βirregularβ means (including trafficking victims) from Modern Slavery Act protections, and introduced powers to detain child refugees for up to 28 days.
At the absolute bare minimum, any legislation on immigration must reverse this.
After the last govt series of truly shocking, anti-law legislation, there is a sense of relief with this latest bill. However, also a strong feeling that this govt is leaning into prosecutions, bringing ppl into scope of deportation and generally ramping up FNOs as a 'folk devil'.
π§΅A really bad outcome on a Care Act/Home Office accommodation legal challenge. BLZ v Leeds is going to make it harder for disabled migrants to get housing under the Care Act: www.bailii.org/cgi-bin/form...
S.57 and s.58 IMA re age disputed children being removed and credibility findings related to consent to "scientific" age assessments to be repealed - whoop whoop!
First glance at new border security bill, sections in IMA 2023 about accommodating separated children to be repealed - YAY!
Feels like a long time since I delivered an in-person lecture, so nice to be in the room with ppl learning, instead of talking to a screen. And especially good to be teaching alongside Mercy at the uni where we both qualified. Feels like I have been on quite a journey since completing my MA at UEA!
So many beautiful, luxury items for my nearest and dearest & I love the feeling of gifting, but this little book for my daughter feels the most humblest gift, that I give with love. I remember this teenage time when friendship is everything, relationships we make for their own sake, are sacred β€οΈ
Deportation charter flights have a notorious history of removing people who have lived here since childhood, separating families and putting people at risk. People being deported often have inadequate access to legal advice before they are removed by force.

tinyurl.com/4axcvz36 βThe social work team accused her of misleading them about her circumstances and said she may not even have been Mazeedatβs real mother.β
This tragedy lays bare how the hostile environment underpinned by a punitive, racist and suspicion-driven ideology, infiltrates social work.

Govt appears to be aiming enforcement at children and families. Making life changing decisions about the trajectory of children's lives without procedural protections that have regard to the unique experiences, and the views of impacted children is shameful.
Oh my gawdess, it's been a long day when it's 10pm and a little vodka orange feels like it might just tip me over the edge!!
Went to @nicobrando.bsky.social book launch yesterday, anyone interested in how we conceptualize children and their rights should read this book, it's open source and makes the philosophy of childhood really accessible for non-philosophers
We want a bike friendly norfolk

I'm too lazy for this. Can't be arsed to follow people, don't care if they follow me. Here's an artist starter kit, order now for xmas.
Please sign and share. The UK government is proposing a change to eliminate human review, opening the way for total automated decision-making without any human intervention! People have the right to an explanation for any decision and a human review in place! People, not Machines!

So the Home Office has republished guidance on asylum claims from the Occupied Palestinian Territories (it mysteriously vanished earlier in the week).
Some thoughts on this guidance: tl;dr the HO recognises the scale of violence but doesnβt seem to want to face up to who is causing it or why 1/π§΅
Also they do their analyses in the US and public services are made dependent on their infrastructure in addition to issues of bias and discrimination so highly problematic. The EU AI act bans these systems
Palantir has long been involved in human rights violations including developing software that helps the US government (ICE) to track undocumented migrants.
