Makes you wanna shout "Good lookin out!" to the universe.
Makes you wanna shout "Good lookin out!" to the universe.
"For Lanie, Death is not an end by any means nor is it something that requires years of mourning and wailing. It is a celebration, a next step, a new beginning all rolled into one. It is Yellow. For this alone, I would recommend this book."
Lemon citrus death. I love this series.
A little Satie for your day. Tomorrow, a taste of Ali Farka Toure.
They're dazzling.

Just now saw this. Kewl.
Anyway, sorry for this long ass thread. It was random af.
Let synchronicity reign as much as we want. Smile widely at chance + love + that unbearable lightness Kundera wrote about...and know in our deep deep bones that all the horrors are wrong: we are not alone. We are never alone. Someone who's never met you or you them, is thinking hard about u.
No matter how diligent others try to whittle lightning strikes of connectivity to cheap fabric shocks, I hope we never lose seeing our souls reflected in something totally random.
A million random confluences have led me to love what we humans do on such a personal level there are times I ache for us whenever we're distracted from being us. We are wonderful engines of empathy, connection, and dreaming. Literal universes pass hand to hand. I hope we never give that up.
...because I had to be sure I was me after the first time. It's rare when art takes you apart and puts you back together atom by atom. Rarer when it's something you likely wouldn't have read if not for hormones. That crush I had, she was a goddess. The kind of fae you're supposed to meet in college.
Beloved. Sweet jumping Jesus in the rock. Another Marwil bookstore selection. That college store went out of business, but it gave me SO much. I got into Carlos Castenada there due to a huge crush I had on someone. She suggested Beloved too. One of the few books I immediately re-read when done...
Wings of Desire. Was going thru a breakup/should we get back together. Had no idea how to manage that heaven of pain. Neither do angels. There's a scene, I won't give it away. But there's a level of anguish in that scene brought on by unbearable love of life. Sometimes lovers shouldn't watch movies.
AKIRA. Saw it on a bootleg tape my older brother got from somebody. VCR. Much pausing and rewinding. It did things with animation I'd never seen before, didn't even know could be done. Haven't watched it in decades. Should rectify that.
One Hundred Years of Solitude. Marwil Bookstore, Wayne State University, Detroit. That opening line. "Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice." An entire story in 1 line. Hello, you.
Bjork (dept store playlist, late 80s). I was shopping for a Christmas gift. Womens dept. 'Birthday' by the Sugarcubes came on. I bopped along with it. Then Bjork did that growl/tenor/alto thing and became a permanent friend on my journey of life...
One of the cool things about being human is coming across a piece of art unexpectedly yet immediately knowing it in your soul on a cellular level. That's how I was introduced to Prince (I knew about him when he came out, but Lady Cab Driver in a Harmony House sealed the deal)...
Anyway HAPPY FRIDAY I paid a bunch of bills (yay!) and I would like you, YES YOU, to read about resistance far from the battlefield, about malicious compliance, sabotage, personal devils, bone-gallows, death, Death (in her beautiful gown), and anger.

Itβs reasonable to not trust someones words if they have a Nazis tattoo
Its reasonable to understand they can marry into a group they are racist against
This is how history has worked. Period

Helluva thread for book recs. The tbr must flow.
Breath Warmth & Dream by Zig Zag Claybourne would be my pick as a great book that I wish more people knew about. Especially fans of Terry Pratchett or Patricia C. Wrede.
Hey now! Thanks!! π
The covers for six of my books: The Young Necromancerβs Guide to Ghosts, Dragon Whisperer, Trueflame, Fireborn, Firebound, After the Dragon Raid. Text across the middle reads: Request them at your library!
Dark grey text on a beige background that reads: Get it at the library! Did you know you can ask your library to purchase books? Free for you! Authors still get paid! Others get to read it as well! Support libraries! With a print mockup of The Dragon Next Door on a wooden shelf. #NessPromo
Want to support me without spending a dime? Request my books at your library! The library pays for their copy so I still get paid and you get to read it for free! Best part, others can enjoy it after you! ππ #booksky
My respect for a bookstore always increases when I see it has a local author section. Big or small doesn't matter. If I see highlighting the voices around you is important to you, it immediately becomes important to me.
bliss
I know I can buy reams of 3-hole paper but using my ancient three hole punch & sliding my manuscript pages into the binder o' wip is not only part of the process, it's flooping joyful.
Last week we celebrated the 35th Anniversary of the Affrilachian #Poets with a reading at Transylvania University. Itβs a good time to share my Beginnerβs Guide to the APs. Grab some poetry from our collective born out of an affirmation of black voices in #Appalachia.

Not a single psychologically fit person in an entire presidential cabinet is not a flex, Murica. Really and truly.
