We’re at @aft.org’s Collective Bargaining Conference in DC! Also, FCFT President Emily VanDerhoff joins AFT President Randi Weingarten to speak about FCPS workers’ campaign and contract wins.
Now, @rweingarten.bsky.social is joining a panel discussion about identifying & using leverage with Emily Vanderhoff (@fcftunion.bsky.social), Regina McGinnis (United Health Professionals or New Mexico), and Dr. Jahnavi Chandrasheka (Northwest Medicine United)
With collective bargaining banned for so long in Virginia, @fcftunion.bsky.social’s Emily Vanderhoff said the biggest challenge was getting people to believe in a process they’d never experienced—while bargaining their first contract in just two months.
This week we’re continuing our organizing trainings and talking to FCPS workers about building union power. We’re also out in Fairfax letting community members know why supporting our schools is essential.
Happy Pride Month! This month, FCFT celebrates the contributions of our LGBTQ+ siblings to the labor movement.
Happy #PrideMonth!
Everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome in their schools and communities, and to live authentically as themselves. This month, let's celebrate the contributions of our LGBTQ+ siblings & continue the fight for civil rights and acceptance for all.
Over 100 new FCPS workers joined our movement in May! Join your union and build power together! shorturl.at/oaOEW
Today, we remember and honor those who gave their life defending freedom and democracy.
More than 2,000 people showed up early on a gray Saturday morning in Lorton, Va., to take their pick of 30,000 brand-new, curated, free books, courtesy of the @fcftunion.bsky.social & our #ReadingOpensTheWorld initiative.
AFT’s Fed Ingram joined Fairfax educators, families and community leaders to give away 30,000 diverse books—part of the inspiring #ReadingOpensTheWorld campaign that’s shared over 10 million books nationwide. A celebration of literacy, hope, and opportunity!

At the NoVA Labor Federation dinner, a large crowd is honored on stage.
In Fairfax, Zach Coe was one of the leaders in having 27,500 teachers bargain for a fair contract. Last night, @fcftunion.bsky.social was honored with an organizing award by NoVA Labor.
More than 50 years after my dad, David Shea, led his @AFT union to strike for a better contract, it echoes.

Zach Coe & I graduated from William & Mary-in different centuries. But I'd rather focus on his similarities with my dad: both math teachers. Zach & fellow teachers voted for @aft.org representation @fcftunion.bsky.social. In 1968, in CT, my dad & fellow teachers voted for an AFT union. In 1970,

Our position is unflinching and remains the same. We are holding firm on the fully negotiated and unanimously approved contracts.
FCFT learned that our contracts will not be funded and we are being forced back to the bargaining table. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors failed us and the students and communities we serve.
Here's our statement on the Board of Supervisors' failure to fund our contracts:
This week, we celebrate teachers! Thank you for your passion, your patience, and the countless ways you shape the future! #teacherappreciationweek
Rally at the school board meeting
✊ Happy May Day! Today, FCFT honors the struggles and victories of all working-class people! 💪 We’re also celebrating one year since FCPS workers filed for our union elections! #internationalworkersday

Some people ban books, but we give them away. We gave away 30,000 books today, 10 million in the past decade.
Looks like an incredible event with free books and Legos for families and educators! Thinking about how many children will be reading brand new books starting this weekend brings a smile to my face. @fcftunion.bsky.social @firstbook.org

Happy #InternationalWomensDay from FCFT!
This #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate the power of education to break barriers and create opportunities. #AccelerateLearning
Great point from @FCFTunion.bsky.social’s David Walrod’s about what children with disabilities can achieve. They deserve the same opportunities as their classmates. But they need resources - and that's why we need federal $$ like IDEA. #ProtectOurKids www.publicnewsservice.org/2025-03-06/e...
