In German beech forests, canopy gap and deadwood enrichment reduced insect damage but stressed trees at low elevations, while the opposite happened higher up.

Manipulation diversified the soundscapes with distinct differences between open and closed #canopy patches. Deadwood however only played a minor role π§ͺπππ¦ββ¬
