Stage-specific regulation of the Plasmodium falciparum proteasome activity reveals adaptive rewiring in artemisinin resistance The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) is essential for Plasmodium falciparum to maintain protein homeostasis, adapt to proteotoxic stress, and regulate parasite growth and stage transitions. The prote...

This week's issue of #ScienceTranslationalMedicine has arrived!

A transcriptional signature could inform smarter antibiotic use in newborns with sepsis, an approved medication boosts anti-malaria immunity in volunteers, and more. https://scim.ag/43PsmE6

Rad53 regulates RNase H1, which promotes DNA replication through sites of transcription-replication conflict Wagner et al. demonstrate that RNase H1 only removes a subset of R-loops in vivo. In yeast, overexpressed RNH1 acts more frequently at dysregulated R-loops and infrequently, if at all, at other RNA-DNA hybrids. Endogenous Rnh1 is induced in a Rad53-dependent manner at transcription-replication conflicts to promote replication completion.

Congratulations to the Weill Cornell Malaria group on completing a Marathon Relay to support the NYC Amory. Sweating for fun and a good cause is a great distraction from some of the more troubling current events in our world.
