James Talarico preaches faith, love, and healing. Do voters actually want that? Democrats want fighters. A Texas Senate candidate is focused on faith.

Good morning. Happy Texas primary day.

To get yourself situated, here's a piece from @christianpaz.bsky.social about Talarico, who polls suggest is either about to win by 12 or lose by 14, because polling is a science.

RIP to Jesse Jackson, who in this debate w/David Duke in 1977 delivered (until the host cut him off) a message of unity and against "national isolationism" that's important to hear today. He also ended the show w/one of the sickest burns ever directed at Duke: "You're not even a legitimate Klansman"

Demoralized Democrats Have a Road Map for Success in Trump’s America. It Was Written by Jesse Jackson. Jesse Jackson first ran for president during the national farm bust of the early 1980s. Debt for farmers had exploded from $85 billion in 1976 to $216 ...

I've thought often of @jamellebouie.net's old piece on Jesse Jackson's presidential campaigns and the useful lessons they hold for Dems in our new reality, written after Trump's first victory. The import of those campaigns have only grown; a good one to revisit today. www.slate.com/articles/new...

Jeff Bezos Killed the Washington Post The billionaire wanted the Post to die, because a vigorous, well-resourced newspaper does not help his bottom line.

I believe the debate about whether Bezos is "obligated to fund $100m+ annual losses" misses the point. He intentionally expanded those losses by millions of dollars for basic corruption reasons, so that the Trump administration would be nicer to Amazon and Blue Origin slate.com/business/202...

A lot of people cannot just start a paid newsletter or become freelancers to sustain their careers. The sports, metro, and international desks did work that requires *team* resources, like legal checks, documents, access to archives, and long-term beat experience.

Jon is one of the best editors and colleagues one could hope for in journalism. He built something great at the Post. The people now running that place are short-sighted morons for cutting him and so many other talents today. This industry makes no goddamn sense.

i.e. When mainstream artists create accessible art about the bad times, it means most normal ppl far beyond passionately political or very engaged ppl know what's happening and that it's fkd up.

A good thing abt the Bruce MPLS song is that it's a sign that corniness is back baby. When the bad times come art that lasts is often at least a little corny, and that's as it should be. We are so back (to mass knowledge of and therefore extremely direct mainstream art responding to the bad times).
