I never miss an opportunity to talk about Trypanosoma cruzi!
Great thread from Indiana University's ID fellowship! I want to add the EID publication from Sept 2025 declaring Chagas disease to be endemic to the US: wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/...
There's still limited testing.

PBS News Hour full episode, Feb. 13, 2026
YouTube video by PBS NewsHour
I forgot that PBS news hour is on YouTube. I resubscribed and watched today. Learned so much, including about Tuskegee airmen lost in WWII, the refugees from the Sudan crisis, and new alliances being formed in the absence of US leadership.

Sarah's wearing a black t-shirt that says "Plant Native Plants" with a lady surrounded by flowers in a stained glass window
There's a market tomorrow, so it's time for my pre-market ritual...
My plea for you to buy a t-shirt right here & now so my box of t-shirts isn't as heavy tomorrow!
THAT'S right! I want this box to be a manageable weight!

Pic showing art work from UC Davis campus - a square drawing with a white background with two drawings of a blue gem (Benitoite) and the chemical formula written out BaTiSi3O9 and then words "State Gem"
Well the halftime show by Bad Bunny - aka Benito Antonio - aka San Benito was phenomenal. I would just like to add that it is fitting he did the show in California as Benitoite is our "State Gem" (this is a pic from street art on the @ucdavis.bsky.social campus).

This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024β25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.
This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

What an H3 Flu Season Really Means
I have zero tolerance for fear-mongering, but it is worth calling attention to the seasonal flu surge weβre seeing in the US.
No tolerance for fear-mongering, but the US is in a #seasonalflu surge. H3N2 subclade K is expected antigenic drift, but H3 seasons do tend to be harder. Flu shots still help, esp against severe disease. Nowβs the time to layer protections against exposure, not "immune-boosting" hacks #EpiSky #IDSky
