Our profit from the post office is the post office.
Our profit from a library is the library.
Our profit from a school is the school."

What a terrible idea 😬
A bunch of states are starting initiatives to help with early reading, and yet somehow this doesn’t seem to involve increasing funding for libraries which is like saying you want to increase honey production without supporting bees.
Good for them.
"Joining the wave of union organizing among cultural workers, employees of the American Library Association (ALA) announced they are forming their union with AFSCME Council 31."

Also, call your reps!
Stop making it everyone else’s problem when you don’t want to justify your abhorrent and ridiculous beliefs to your own children. Censorship just tells me you know how stupid it sounds when you complain out loud about LGBTQIA and black and brown folks existing.

Clara Stanton Jones was the first Black president of ALA, guiding them towards a resolution about awareness of racism and sexism. The UAW backed her as the Detroit Public Library director when the Friends and some board members didn't. #BlackHistoryMonth

The American Library Association strongly denounces new federal book banning legislation proposed in Congress. Call your Reps. Tell them to oppose H.R. 7661. Capitol switchboard: 202-224-3121 American Library Association, Show Up For Our Libraries
"Parents, not politicians, should guide their children’s reading. In our school, campus, and public libraries, materials are selected by trained literacy professionals who understand child development and community needs. Their work is grounded in one clear purpose: helping young people become lifelong readers. H.R. 7661 isn’t fundamentally about protecting kids. It’s about giving politicians broad authority to restrict whose stories are allowed on the shelves. That should concern anyone who believes in the freedom to read and the right of families to make decisions for themselves.” - ALA President Sam Helmick
"Rather than targeting librarians and teachers, Congress should invest in them. The Right to Read Act offers a better path, supporting well-staffed and well-resourced school libraries, strengthening evidence-based literacy instruction, and protecting the dedicated professionals who help young people discover books that open doors and expand horizons. When we trust families, support educators, and protect the freedom to read, our young people thrive.” - ALA President Sam Helmick.

Text over photo reads: "ACTION, NOT REACTION: Integrating the Library Profession. Words: Denise Rayman, Photos: ALA Archives" ALA150, American Library Association
In the midst of the Civil Rights era in America, librarians were battling for and against segregated libraries in the South, and over integration within their own ranks. Integration of the library profession was a long process that started in the early 1900s.

I work in an academic library where patrons can chat with a human librarian 24/7. We use a co-op so librarians across the world help each other when your specific staff are off duty. This is a pretty common service, and it generally provides better info than AI for reference questions. Jusy FYI 🤷🏻♀️
I mean we still need an update of the Comics Librarianship definitions (and book) 🤔
