Fact Check: Weakening the patent system won't lower prices for patients. It would undermine medical progress.
In a recent STAT article, I-MAK CEO Tahir Amin argues that abuses of the patent system are leading to higher drug costs. But this gets the logic exactly backwards β it is because of the patent systemβ¦
Lowering the cost of #medication is a worthy goal. But undermining the patent system that drives #innovation in new treatments and products is not the right solution.
A strong, predictable #patent system is what makes both breakthrough drugs and lower-cost alternatives possible.
