Ugh, I'm here too early. Commenting so someone reminds me to look at this again. Also, I hope this doesn't go where I think it's going

Criminal A Podcast About Crime

Adding TW for death by police: I'd never heard of EXCITED DELIRIUM before this episode and now I'm so fricking mad that it ever existed. If your loved one died from this, you need to get that death reassessed.

Year 2, Week 10 Feb 28-Mar6, 2026 - time (for) change

Each Friday night, I write a briefing on what happened in US science & higher ed. 🧪

Mar 6 (Year 2, Week 10)
- NIH revoking certification of early career workers union
- FDA 'chaos' & Prasad out (again)
- even more delay & interference in NIH funding
& so much more

Of the three seasons during which I guide tours in Churchill, #aurora season is by far of the most stressful, because we have no control over what people are coming up to see. Tonight’s show was a big relief and a huge excitement for my guests. Now I can sleep. 😊

Publisher demands $500 from impersonated author to retract paper Last year, we wrote about a Walsh Medical Media journal that refused to withdraw an author’s paper unless he paid a fee — even though he didn’t write or submit the article. For one reader, some det…

We have IFA images in a new version of our paper & I stared at the figure for 10 minutes straight to make sure nothing was accidentally duplicated.

I did panic for a minute & then realized the "duplicated" panel I saw was a merge 🤦🏼‍♀️

Just hoping it doesn't end up in a @elisabethbik.bsky.social post!

Current NIH leadership want you to think they are using rigorous, consistent & scientific processes to screen studies to align them with agency priorities.

But the process that they have put down on paper is a sham.

It’s important to know NIH is not following its own guidance. Here’s why:

If you want to scritch your very own tapir & you live outside of Central or South America or SE Asia, you'll need to visit a zoo.

But these little guys are (evolutionarily) from around here, in North America. Let's talk about it.

I have so many examples of students questioning whether I know enough about a topic to teach it. I asked in faculty meeting "who has been questioned whether they are qualified to teach a class?" The women raised their hands, the men didn't. It's definitely rooted in sexism and racism.

I asked in faculty meeting "who has had a student ask whether they are qualified to teach the subject of the class?" The women raised their hands, none of the white men did. It's definitely a sexism and racism thing. A male student laughed in class bc he thought I was using a word wrong! I wasn't.

I didn't even know about the "China Initiative". This is horrifying. The lives and careers that the Trump administrations have, and are, destroying... Sue Northwestern. Sue the US government for the "China Initiative". That is pure racism.

Warning: sensitive topic- suicide.

Sepsis from a tooth infection should be a never happen event in a government run prison system.

That these prisons are private almost ensures that the prisons are cutting back on services and resources. But even then, a situation such as this was entirely preventable.

This is absolutely criminal.
