Elections in #Slovenia next month. For those looking for a primer on the development of the party system over the past few decades and insights into the last elections in 2022 check out our article in @europe-asia.bsky.social www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

I discuss several themes inc:
a/ Scholars of campaigning have much to learn from looking beyond the usual cases (US, UK etc.)
b/ digital tools can be effective, but are at their most effective when combined with old fashioned tools
c/ despite obsessions with studying modes, key remains the message.
Very pleased to see my review article, Clicks and Mortar, on electoral campaigning assigned to an issue in the latest Government and Opposition. 1/2 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
Gratulujem! Congratulations on your new book Tim!

I think you are right. Article 70 says that members of the govt (inc PM) may not engage in activities incompatible with performance of a ministerβs duties. But then refers to βPodrobnosti stanovΓ zΓ‘konβ.
For all interested in democracyβ and the twists and turns of #Polish politics have a listen to this People Power Politics podcast in which I talk to @benstanley.eu and Stanley Bill about their recent publications.

For
Your listening pleasure. I recently had a chat with my ever insightful colleague @adamjamesquinn.bsky.social for the Political Worldview podcast to talk about all things #Czech and #Slovak. We also ended up talking quite a lot about the US.
Congratulations to my awesome PhD student Rachel Herring (whom I supervise with the great Ed Turner) on her first academic article: a fascinating study of #German-Polish relations www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

The current Labour government needs to convey a message of hope, hope, hope. Voters are frustrated and disappointed. For all its faults the Blair government (at least in the first few years) conveyed a sense of hope and a belief that things really could get better and were moving in that direction.
A quick take on the Czech elections π¨πΏ written with one of my PhD students, Marek Prsin: views-from-central-and-balkan-countries.eu/motorists-pi... @sarahobolt.bsky.social @filipkostelka.bsky.social @petraguasti.bsky.social @zsolt.bsky.social @timbale.bsky.social @catherinedevries.bsky.social
Over 95% votes now counted. Babisβs ANO wins over a third of the vote. Some form of coalition with ANO at the helm likely.
Sean, just sent you a WhatsApp message.
80% now counted in Czech elections.
Lots of interesting stories beyond the immediate headlines: Pirates crossing the threshold again; Communist led Stacilo currently below the threshold; and Babisβs most likely coalition partner, the Motorists crossing the threshold.
Spolu likely to increase share of its vote as the bigger settlements still to declare. Babisβs ANO will clearly be the largest party, but may struggle to form a coalition with a majority in parliament.
2/3 votes counted in Czech elections. π§΅π§΅
Wish I could have been there.
Thanks Tim. This looks very helpful indeed. Have a great weekend and hope our paths cross again soon.
What is the best article length account explaining the outcome of the 2024 UK general election that draws on theories of voting behaviour? Would like a suggestion to assign to my students. Thanks. Self-nominations welcome! @timbale.bsky.social @drjennings.bsky.social @robfordmancs.bsky.social
Have fun and enjoy the city.
Name changes and parties. The number of times former Slovak PM Igor Matovic has changed the name of his party is striking β¦.
Know a potential PhD student interested in #democraticresilience, environmental politics & the Baltics? If so pls encourage them to check out this funded studentship & chance to work with my wonderful colleagues Licia Cianetti and Fiona Nunan. For more info: www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/cen...
