This project has been quite a journey, starting at the beginning of my PhD six years ago.
A big thank you to our co-authors Bart Aben, Kirsten Verhaegen, Anne-Merel Meijer, Céline Gillebert and @evdbussc.bsky.social, as well as all students and colleagues who contributed along the way.
🕵️♀️The correlated three-factor structure received the strongest support.
But I'm especially proud of the full transparency and the open science approach 🪟. With this, we want to offer a nuanced and critical perspective on commonly used cognitive control tasks and ongoing debates in the field.

What we found:
Not all is bad with older age! 🧓
While updating and shifting declined across age groups, proactive control remained spared. Remarkably, inhibition even improved in older adults.
Considering multiple cognitive control components when studying cognitive aging seems crucial! 🧵(2/4)
