My name is Martin Chaney and I am running to be one of your State Committee Members from King County. I would be honored to receive your support.

I have been involved in Democratic Activism Dennis Kucinich inspired me to become involved when he ran for president in 2004. Since that time, I have served in many roles in the party including 5 years as Chair of the 45th LD Democrats and 5 years as Chair of the 5th LD Democrats. I have also served as a State Committee Member representing the 5th LD, as King County Endorsements Chair, and am currently Technology Chair in the 45th LD.

I was thrilled when Beth Bazley asked me to join her team as one of King County’s State Committee Members. I am excited by the prospect of working together with the dynamic group of leaders she has put together to steer the King County Democrats through the upcoming uncertain time ahead of us. I feel I am well suited for this role both by experience and personal inclination. The role of a King County State Committee Member is to be a bridge between the State and King County organization as well as all the Democratic PCOs and voters in King County. It’s about encouraging people to work together for mutual benefit; and building the King County Democrats into an organization which leads by example and provides valuable services to its Legislative Organizations. I would like to see us build on the example of how the Endorsements Committee provided service to LDs in the last cycle by applying the same mindset to everything we do.

Like many other people, my personal values are a blend of my parents’ teaching by both word and example, personal experience, and introspection. In my case my mother’s experience as a native-born young adult Seattleite American citizen of Japanese descent, being uprooted from her family home by World War II executive order 9066, dominates. I also am deeply concerned about the future of our world and country and the place of my three granddaughters, two of whom are Hispanic, in it. This year’s election results have served to heighten my concerns as I see the potential of the reversal of over half a century of slow (and yes insufficient) progress in civil rights.

I am an enabler; I gain great satisfaction from helping others work effectively to achieve their goals and ambitions, especially when their values align substantively with mine. Every other year the Washington State Party and its Local Party Organizations renew themselves through the reorganization process. It would be a great honor and privilege to represent you in the upcoming cycle as one of your King County State Committee Members and we are able to work together to attain our mutual goals. I humbly ask for your vote and support toward that end.

I am running to be one of the King County Democrats' State Committee Representatives. The list of all the filed officer candidates and their statements can be found here: www.kcdems.org/reorganizati...
Due to space limitations I had to shorten my statement. I'll post a link to the full statement.
