What a gripping, heart wrenching novel from Charlotte McConaghy. Glad I decided to lug it with me over to Italy. Unforgettable. Brilliant.

Oh my gosh, what a book.
When I first started reading Christopher Bollen's HAVOC, I thought someone foisted this Bertie-Wooster-like delight onto me as a thriller. But then it became Jeeves meets American Psycho, and I truly became smitten.
I absolutely LOVE this deliciously dark, dark book.
Got more grief and complaints in 14 novels from one dog intentionally hit by a car than all the abuse and murder inflicted on people. I donβt get it either.
Still House Plants last night in Los Angeles. I have wanted to see them live for a very long time. What a blast.
Last week I read a brand-new book that was so awful I was afraid I wouldn't read again. Then I picked up THE NIGHT GUEST by Hidur KnΓΊtsdΓ³ttir and it saved me. An absolute ace of a thriller/horror like nothing else out there. @hildur.bsky.social
I love her so much. Although Iβll be leaving for Europe when it comes out, itβs one hardback book Iβd be willing to heft along for the ride.
been waiting for this one for a long, long time
Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith
Found a hardback copy of Grasshopper Jungle by @marburyjack.bsky.social to replace the one I gave to a friend π
π thank you!
Over the years I have been gifted some pretty incredible fan art. This is one of my favorites. Mad praise for whoever created this.
The dissatisfied face of someone who canβt go outside because I donβt want her to get bird flu.
hi. just poppin in to be a little bitch
I love my cat so much. But to be honest, nobody else does; sheβs such a prick, so I totally get it. This is the most important work pets can do for our souls.
My family is from Trieste. I was the first one born in the States, and grew up with a non-English-speaking mother, who came here after/because of 1954. I still go back there for several months every year, and also have relatives who emigrated to Brazil. I will get that other book. Nice to meet you!
My Best Albums of 2024. Overall best goes to Romance, by Fontaines D.C.βall bangers and no mash. Also,MJ Lenderman, This Is Lorelei, Still House Plants, Sturgill Simpson, The Cure, Mount Eerie, A Place For Owls, Adrianne Lenker.
Thank you, Paul!
Last month, they sent me an email saying they had decided to reimburse me, but they wanted me to email them my bank account routing number and account number. Not sketchy at all, right? I told them to just put a fucking check in an envelope, the USPS knows how to get things delivered.
A very small victory: In the past 18 months, Lufthansa has lost my luggage on two out of two flights. Dealing with them was utterly exhausting; like their strategy is totally based on getting people to give up. My foul mouth and I have finally prevailed. Go to hell, Lufthansa. Donβt bring luggage.
My Best Books of 2024--all of them absolutely spectacular and original. THE HEART IN WINTER by Kevin Barry; BEAUTYLAND by Marie-Helene Bertino; PARASOL AGAINST THE AXE by Helen Oyeyemi.
My favorite book tattoo, inspired by Kurt and @marburyjack.bsky.social

Iβm so happy to welcome all the new people here. I will always be grateful to the person (whom Iβm a ridiculous fanboy of) who sent me an invite code way back when. JSYK. I have undocumented friends. I will go to the streets for them. I post pictures and stuff about books and music. And my mean cat.
a tree last night
Sheβs looking at holiday lights.
Thanks so much, Jessica!
One of the things that helped me get through this weekend was a re-reading Andrew Smith's Grasshopper Jungle. I'm so in love with his books. Thanks @marburyjack.bsky.social!
Itβs a decent place. Iβm happy you made it over.
hey @aplaceforowls.bsky.social i preordered the next album and the first two singles are incredible but iβm over in europe so itβs confusing when the new single is dropping today or tomorrow or what can you please explain time zones because trying to watch baseball here sucks
