I think the question we must ask now is: if machine intelligence is going to be able to produce much more sophisticated and well-sourced knowledge than human brains, shouldn't we start thinking about what kinds of cognition and wisdom we actual will need and want to develop going forward?

I think that is exactly the right question. If machine intelligence is going to be able to produce much more sophisticated and well-sourced knowledge than human brains, maybe we should start thinking about the kinds of cognition and wisdom we need and want to have going forward?

Automated Knowledge and the Postmodern Condition
In 1979, the philosopher Jean‑François Lyotard published The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge, a short but prescient meditation on the changing status of knowledge in technological socie…
Intellectual work is no longer strictly a human affair. It is now distributed across complex assemblages of humans, algorithms, and planetary-scale datasets. This transformation may mark the moment when the so-called "postmodern condition" finally arrives.

UK must stockpile food in readiness for climate shocks or war, expert warns
Prof Tim Lang says country produces far less food than it needs to feed population and is particularly vulnerable
"The nine big retailers account for 94.5% of all retail food. That’s nine companies, using just 131 distribution centres. In drone war, that’s a sitting duck.” - Professor Tim Lang, the doyen of UK food system studies for 40 years

Eco-Marxism and Prometheus Unbound: Capitalist versus Socialist Ecomodernism - Monthly Review
“Ecological modernization as a theory and a practice has thus come to stand principally for an anti-ecological stance in that it puts capitalist social relations before issues of humanity and nature, while the accumulation of capital remains the supreme object of the system.”

Humanity heating planet faster than ever before, study finds
Researchers identify sharp rise to about 0.35C every decade, after excluding natural fluctuations such as El Niño
It doesn’t matter whether the rate of global warming is increasing. It’ll never cease to amaze me that people don’t care that it’s happening at all. It should be the most alarming thing ever.

Strategy is fundamentally all about developing a sophisticated theory of the mind of one’s opponent.
With MAGA’s Iran Adventure, guess we’re going to see what a modern war almost totally devoid of anything we’d call “strategy” looks like.

As an ecosystem scientist, I get why the majority of politicians don't perceive severe environmental degradation risks, even to food security. They've lived in magic worlds: the economy, military, public policy. But now we know. And *all* governments had best be very proactive & judicious right now.

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth...It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken."
-Carl Sagan
