I've never liked horror as a genre but I think I like games with a good control of tension more than I realized. I don't like things that try to disturb you and/or constantly be tense but if a game has moments of high tension that naturally emerge from systems it rocks
if I were to guess it'd be some combination of the general world + feel, how many objectives you have to work towards in different ways, how fast it is to queue back into a match and the tension you get from it being essentially a battle royale but with much higher stakes
marathon has taken over my life and brain and I'm not entirely sure why. there's cool stuff about it but there's also a good bit of stuff that's just kinda Fine so it's hard for me to think of any reason in particular why it's grabbing me as much as it is
outpost is a very cool map. it's cramped and scary and for good reason but starts to feel a little simple until you realize you basically have an optional quest each run to unlock & fight your way into a central area that's got a bunch of stuff but is even more cramped and scary
Marathon (yes this is a post about Marathon) ! I'm out here lovin Marathon !
after the last Bad Months of Games it feels like we're finally in a Good Month of Games which is refreshing
can you imagine if Any drawing software introduced a common bug where you just couldn't adjust draw size after a couple minutes in the software. can you imagine if that was not introduced once but twice. can you imagine that not being addressed for months. that's how bad it is man
the job of software is to get in the way as frequently as possible and constantly interrupt the user's workflow and to break things randomly in favor of features nobody uses Yes this is a post about zbrush
a kingdom of facts run by wizards and jesters would go kinda crazy right now
Had a lot of fun studying this character illustration (pin.it/1Y7Cq8c4s) as part of a quest for the March Hotel daily art practice event.
Someone is running a really fun activity!! Come play!
(I'll be throwing the guy below at it!)
it feels like it should be in the realm of late 2000s nostalgia irony by now except it's not and can't be because it's a word that people still use regularly
this is so smooth and pretty. . reminds me of great ace attorney (I don't know how else to phrase this or place this thought but this is very much a compliment I like this a lot)
so like everyone agrees hair is the most annoying thing to model right. no question just the worst in every possible style and method. ok yeah cool that's what I thought thanks
some hands

creature of some sort
Maybe the strangest thing to me as we enter into a new Forever War is how many people completely uncritically accept the idea that the US is the global arbiter of righteousness and peace without any ulterior motives. no country spends billions on a military campaign just to be nice cmon man
oh my gah colors...
Additionally, I was responsible for visual assets for Mo (@redredraccoons.studiosiat.com ) Faye (@ayatofaye.studiosiat.com ) Ap0110 (@beepboopkacaw.studiosiat.com ) and Wren ๐

Happy 1-year anniversary to Mo and Faye and congratulations on the new debuts ๐โจ
I had the honour of making the loading animation for Cappuverse SFU's Wren Akane (@akanewren.studiosiat.com)

& if it's any surprise yeah this game has a Lot of story to read through. arguably too much. there's like a minute long audio log you get for finding a 2X Drinkable Cheeseburger for the first time & that doesn't necessarily make it an outlier
Marathon Update: the game is fun. I have spent way too much time on it already. yet to see how good the overall game progression feel will be but this is a beta so yeah
huh what why the hell does montreal get so much special atten- oh ok nevermind we're good
I've never really played an extraction shooter before either so on the surface to me it does kinda look like a typical battle royale but with. less going on.
I guess the appeal might be more in meta progression & story. I wanna hear from durandal again. see how he's doin
I want to be excited for Marathon but it's hard to not feel a bit cautious about all of it. supposedly it's Cool Now but the maps & enemy variety seem pretty lacking from gameplay. we'll see I guess
relatively quick cooldown piece / sketch / shape practice thing
clothing detailing stuff
cool discovery: actual knot tying in marvelous designer. it's naturally very jank both to make & keep working but the fact you can do this at all with pure physics simulation is very neat to me
I do not have a good way to show this but I've basically been iterating on this & going nowhere for the past month so there's a Lot of discarded models & clothing & such that I now have nothing to do with except make IMMs for later use maybe
guess I might as well show said project. basic concept was "ethereal undersea cultish guy with clean & aquatic inspired tech stuff who's also kinda regal but not like too much" and from the way I'm describing things you can probably start to see the issues
