Well chuffed, and hats off to anyone who entered this year’s contest. There are some incredible looking titles on that list and my TBR is getting longer every day!

Put up a new blog post showcasing some art. ☺️ The art itself could be considered spoilers for THE RILL LORD, so consider yourself warned if you want to avoid those.

#WIPSnips The word for February 28th is WALK

Naturally there is much "walk"ing in the Triempery. Usually people walk to go somewhere, preferably somewhere of interest. In this bit of a snippet Dorilian walks to a chessboard. Believe it or not, it's magic.

#WIPSnips The word for February 20 is CORNER

THE RILL LORD brings ordinary people into conflict with magic. How do they fight sorcery? Hans talks with some of his close allies about that possibility. Some flowers bloom in the "corner."

Left side is a text excerpt from THE WALLED CITY, fifth book of the Triempery Revelations series by L.L. Stephens. Quote is of a character realizing how much he wants to be desired:

Had he not relived daily, even hourly, the feel of her body straining against his in the forge, her desire hot upon his mouth, her hands pulling him down? His body had answered hers no less ardently, an animal hunger that had left him breathless. And Aubrey’s voice, afterward, the irony of her words. I hate him, your Hierarch….
She hadn’t known. And in not knowing, she had given him both the gift and the curse of experiencing what it was to be wanted apart from being a Rill-born Prince. Of being, simply and seductively, a man.
He had feared he would never know it again, never again feel the pleasure of being with a woman who wanted him simply because she found his body appealing, his person worthwhile, who embraced so fully the parts of him that she knew. The pain of that knowledge had cut him as deeply as a death. To be wanted for himself and then not wanted because of who he was! The irony replayed itself again and again in Dorilian’s mind, until at last he had managed to find it ludicrous in the way profound truths often are, that he should be so singularly cursed that love for him should be impossible.

Right side is an image of the book cover for THE WALLED CITY. Cover is white, gray, and blue and shows a lone man facing a distant, icy city.

Today is Book Quote Wednesday and the word is PAIN

There's plenty of pain in the Triempery series. Here's an example of emotional pain. Dorilian hurts at knowing he's difficult to love. And why? Because so few people ever truly see or know him.

Left side is the book cover of THE GOD SPEAR, book four of the Triempery Revelations series by L.L. Stephens. Cover is orange and gold and shows a young woman walking down a country lane toward a tall, strange hill crowned with antlers.

On the right side is a text excerpt from THE GOD SPEAR:

Thron shook his head. “Prophecies, in my experience, are difficult to outmaneuver. They can dog one’s footsteps to the end.”
“Your experience? What prophecies dog you?”
He laughed, a low sound that acknowledged Aubrey’s interest. “I would be a fool to answer such a question. Why should I provide you with conversation from which—I am certain—you would concoct an absurdity?”
“You talk with others. Why not me?”
“They are not forever laying traps with their questions.”
“Maybe I’m just interested in you.”
Thron gave Aubrey a ghost of a smile, then looked away again. She laughed. “Is that so unbelievable?”
“No. It is undoubtedly part of the truth. Just not enough of it.”

Today is Book Quote Wednesday and the word is UNBELIEVEABLE

In THE GOD SPEAR a few unbelievable things happen, largest of which is the Dorilian is in Amallar at all. But nearly as unbelievable is that a Kheld woman insists on flirting with him.

#WIPSnips The word for February 9 is SELECT

In THE RILL LORD a great battle looms. Dorilian of course "selects" his weapons. And frets. Because few things are less sure than battle.

haha yes, answering this type of question is much harder as the author than a reader. And, yeah, there are a lot of good candidates for the hit list. Erenor is also pretty tempting to kill.

Hey! If you're a short story reader, please check out the Unavowed anthology. It was published by Grim Oak Press and features a whole bunch of incredible indie authors... and somehow I snuck in amongst them.

My story is called "My Soul Has Teeth". It's weird.

Check it out!

#WIPSnips The word for February 3 is CONFIDENT

Dorilian may be the World's most "confident" person. He has reason to be: he's close to being the avatar of a god. In THE RILL LORD he has this snip of a conversation with Levyathan about the upcoming battle.

"Perish" is a spoilery word for THE RILL LORD; there's some serious perishing going on in that book. However here's a passage establishing how the magic-using bad guys get around.
