The journey of discovery features heterochromatin donuts 🍩(!!), combining fly genetics with wetting theory 🫧(the physical rules of how materials interact and spread), and very photogenic nuclei 🔬!
We show this in the context of two of the largest nuclear condensates and neighbors: the nucleolus and heterochromatin, using the Drosophila model system.
Excited to share my postdoc paper! We reveal a design principle for how the nucleus organizes multiple membrane-less compartments (condensates) in 3D space: through a hierarchy of interaction strengths and dual-affinity linker proteins. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Sinners!
New preprint! Grad student Clover Stubbert and undergrad Cherry Soe worked out a serum-free media that sustains eggshell-less C. elegans embryos all the way through development, now making it possible to access any embryonic developmental stage with small molecules
