Ever applied to UK Core Surgical Training? I'd love to discuss it with you for my PhD. I've analysed all applications ever(!) & now it's time to speak to real people! All help gratefully received.

My notes app is all just like
"Amanda from Vancouver. Likes dogs. Can't remember surname. Used to be a physiotherapist. Need to email her about my PhD methodology"
π
Instead of just looking on the conference feed, I had to try to remember what someone's first name was and then try to google their research afterwards like some sort of private detective. Absolutely bananas. Networking on social media for academia is completely essential
I took a lil break from the twitter-type apps
Then I went to a conference a few weeks ago, and instead of connecting here in real time I had to β¨ask for a new friend's email or numberβ¨ rather than just resume the friendship online immediately afterwards.
What in the 20th century even was that
Mat leave 2025, PhD 2026, ST3 in 2027, if full time and no hiccups then ST8 in 2033 π
screenshot of the pdf of article titled 'Sixty seconds on... spelling errors' from the BMJ
A little gem from @bmj.com- Matthew Limb interviews statisticians Adrian Barnett and @nicolewhite.bsky.social about their finding that spelling errors in publications are increasing over time.
'Pubic' health and randomised controlled 'trails' are errors I've made myselfπ€£. Enjoy! π
I just learnt my projected date to finish training as a general surgeon is in Jan 2033.
I started med school in 2011.
British training is LONG π
Laptop showing a PowerPoint presentation with a slide describing the problem. Shows statistics for sexual misconduct. Must have seen sexual harassment. 63%women harassed. 30%women assaulted. Lego in the background.
Writing a training session about Sexual Misconduct in Surgery with Active Bystander training. My son is building Lego. He already knows my work improving the culture in surgery. Weβll get there.
The future is bright π
