So nice to see an excellent example of integrating social protection programs for older adults with TB screening in Uganda. Dr Mwesige presented data showing the program increased case detection in older adults! @unionconference #unionconf
Can social networks be leveraged for TB case finding among children ? Dr Kakande from IDRC Uganda shares data from the SONET study…. Children with incident tb infection have more friends with TB infection compared to those who do not have TB #Union2025 conference.
A new study shows that vaccinating pregnant women against RSV led to a 72% drop in hospitalizations for babies with the virus in the UK, highlighting the real-world effectiveness of the vaccine in protecting infants.

As a doctor in a hospital that serves the urban poor, Lindsay Ryan's patients already face such a gantlet of obstacles that modest barriers to accessing government programs can effectively screen them out.

NEW STUDY! 📣
A large global study found men are more likely to be exposed to TB than women.
The reason? Likely social behaviours:
• More time in crowded indoor spaces
• Delays in seeking care

Highlighting an outstanding presentation at #CROI2025 about VIHve Libre peer-based model for expanding equitable access to PrEP and PEP in Mexico. They serve over 3,000 clients, more than 20% of PrEP clients in Mexico. Check out the video: www.vihvelibre.org/en/croi

This is really interesting! We recently showed very similar associations f on genomic and spatial analysis of drug sensitive TB www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1...
@petermacp.bsky.social wow this work is fantastic, i am looking forward to reading more in depth! Thanks for posting!
#CROI2025 TB Day 2 (cont)- 3. Eric Nuermberger -an excellent summary of long acting tx for TB! We saw the impact of LA in HIV prevention, could revolutionize TPT
🤔Can we get to one shot and you're done TPT?
Bedaquiline looks promising in mouse model. Now Phase 1 trial! More drugs in development!
#CROI2025 TB Day 2 (cont.) TB-Feron FIA vs QFT-PLUS in Vietnam. Simplified IGRA
-Overall, sensi (90.2%) but suboptimal spec (73.9%) , subgroups below.
- With good spec. could it be used as a near POC for TPT? Maybe, but would need to compare cost-effectiveness to other tools including CRP.
#CROI2025 🔥 2. Poster-Andrew Kerkhoff #UCSF and #CIRDZ team shared data from an active case finding at social drinking venues in Zambia with digital CXR and XPRT. Yield: 9.6% of bar staff (N-52) and 4.6% of patrons (N=388) with new diagnosis of TB, NNT=19. Acceptability was high! #TBSky
Allwood highlights post TB lung disease burden- 155 million TB survivors, with 10-15% severe lung impairment.
📍TB tx trials should consider PROs and long term lung outcomes
📍Data needed on prevention and treatment.
🔬Will host-directed therapies will mitigate the damage? early data on NAC, doxy
#TBSky highlights from #CROI205 Day 2:
Great posters and talks on case finding, some new diagnostics (TB-FERON), and exciting talk about long-acting TB drugs for TB preventive therapy! #IDSky
1. My favorite talk of the day was Brian Allwood's talk on post TB lung disease:
🔥Very exciting data presented at #CROI2025 and just published in the Lancet:
PK data for once year IM Lenacapavir are higher than twice a year SC Len at 56week and support phase 3 study for PrEP. The public health impact of yearly LEN for prevention would be huge! #IDSky
What about once daily DTG? The DOLPIN moms team did PK simulations...
❌ NO for daily DTG with 1HP in pregnancy, but 3HP is a possibility (troughs above goal). PK sampling of pregnant women taking daily DTG and 3HP is underway!
Great to see a study on TB prevention in pregnancy! Jyoti Matad presents 🐬 Dolphin Moms -PK study of DTG in pregnant women (20-34 weeks gestation) taking 1HP or 3HP.
Primary PK outcome: ✅ BID DTG levels therapeutic with both 1HP and 3HP. 2 women did not have therapeutic levels, due to adherence.
#TBSky highlights #CROI2025 Day 1:
Neel Gandhi- Universal WGS study in South Africa among people with XDR TB show casual contact (residential proximity or shared clinic) is the epi link for ~50% of clustered participants, close contacts <10%. Comm.-based approaches needed to interrupt transmission
