it becomes easy to see what you're lacking when you have a critical eye, but focusing too hard on the lack can hurt you
when you start attributing arbitrary things like age to determine how good you "should" be at something, art becomes a endless cycle of "catching up". hard to make art that way

i can relate. drawing gives me so much space to think which i love, but im prone to very negative thought loops if some memory triggers them for me
i've gotten a bit better at tackling those thought loops through therapy, but they still show up and make drawing less fun at times
