Last month I was feeling guilty I'd run into so few cool pieces of SF-related criticism, so of course this month I am positively drowning in them. Some really good reads here.
adventure games from the 80s were intentionally designed to be tricky, mean and occasionally counterintuitive so that you could get stuck for long periods of time. this was called โvalue for your dollarโ

Cannot tell you how depressing it is to read that people are simply refusing to read nonfiction after youโve worked really hard to write a nonfiction book you believe in, in case anyone is wondering why Iโm posting so much about my book which comes out in a few weeks #BookSky

Clever little budget-priced CPRG just left early access with a good launch discount, too.
A weird swampy fantasy setting, semi-real-time combat ala Vagrant Story and a cool claymation-esque art style. Also hugely undersold so far.
Go check it out, RPG folks.
Wake up, kids. This month in the Alt Rock Department at @pastemagazine.bsky.social I wrote about the New Radicals and the importance of having a shitty job, if only to know how far you can test the limits of the world.

been reading โerotic comics in japan: an introduction to eromanga,โ and itโs neat to see just how much influence came from shojo manga in the 70s
It's March 5th in Japan, which is Yu Watase's birthday!
Watase has been drawing manga since debuting in 1989 at 18 years old!
Known for Fushigi Yugi, Ayashi no Ceres, and Arata Kangatari, Watase has been a storytelling powerhouse in both the shojo and shonen demographics.

The absurdism of 24 Killers is what I love the most. Treating home with loving irreverence and humour reminded me of how often home is weaponized against communities. As Artemis stated in her piece for this issue, home is not a place, but it's also not a fixed meaning.

Anime girl King Arthur and the history of genderbending in the Fate series
While occasionally thematically messy and narratively convoluted, #Fateโs long history of genderbending is rooted in a genuine interest in exploring gender, identity, and personhood.
