A Venn diagram showing the overlap of The Matrix, Idiocracy and Terminator. "You are here" is written where the overlap occurs.
Feels about right...
A graphic showing the Pine Gap spy base and the words 'CLOSE PINE GAP: Oppose the US war machine'.
The problem here in Australia isn't just that Labor is so slavish in its support for the US and Israel's reign of terror across the Middle East. It's that we've increasingly been turned into a central support in the US's global infrastructure of violence...
Now Watching:
The Organizer (1963)
Finally getting around to watching:
The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021)
This has been a blind spot of mine in the Coen brother's filmography for a while. Looking forward to it!
Now watching:
The Bloody Child (1996)
Anarchy and other Essays - Emma Goldman Mutual Aid - Peter Kropotkin The Conquest of Bread - Peter Kropotkin
As expected, after rewatching 'Unrest', I kinda feel compelled to reread a couple of books:
- 'Anarchy and other Essays' by Emma Goldman
- 'Mutual Aid' by Peter Kropotkin
- 'The Conquest of Bread' by Peter Kropotkin
All great reads, highly recommended.
It also gave me an idea for a project...
One of my favorites!
I'm in a mood and feel like rewatching:
Unrest (2022)
I'll probably wind up wanting to reread a bunch of specific books afterwards, but I don't really have much else to do...
Don't threaten me with a good time, Pam.
Details about Jane Schoenbrun's new film!

I know the feeling.
I went back to school in my late 30s and I was super nervous. When I got there, it was full of other people who were just as nervous as me.
You're gonna be fine! You're gonna be surrounded by other people who love film and are there to learn.
Also, you're writing is good enough!
Great book! If you haven't already, I'd definitely recommend "In the blink of an eye" by Walter Murch.
It's a bit less practical and a bit more philosophical, but still a great read.
Another great one is "The Conversations: Walter Murch and the Art of Editing Film" by Michael Ondaatje.
Thanks for posting this, looks really interesting!
Excellent passage to highlight considering what we're currently living through. Emma Goldman's "Anarchism and Other Essays" is one of the few books that I reread every every couple of years, sometimes each year if things feel tough.
Finally, a trailer!
If this trailer has you intrigued and you haven't seen Mark Jenkin's other films (Bait, Enys Men), you definitely should check them out. They're awesome!

A medium wide shot of director David Lynch sitting in a wooden director's chair on a sidewalk in Hollywood. He is wearing a dark blazer and khaki pants, holding a cigarette in one hand and a coffee cup in the other. To his left stands a large Holstein cow. To his right is a massive "For Your Consideration" banner featuring a blue-toned image of actress Laura Dern for the film Inland Empire. The scene is set outdoors against a backdrop of green grass and a white building.
Always and forever π Wishing a very happy birthday to the singular Laura Dern.
Sydney police are scum.
You'd think that after all the footage of ICE goons terrorising US citizens, that cops all over the world would be like "Yikes! that's really bad. Let's not do that!"
Nope. It's emboldened them.
Fucking fascists.

Tonight's film:
24 Frames (2017)
Army of Shadows (1969)
Internet is down, so it's a pick from the physical collection.
Now watching:
Le Cercle Rouge (1970)
I love Melville. I wish we had a current filmmaker that was either heavily influenced by or unashamedly ripped off his style.
The closest I can think of is Johnnie To. I miss his crime films!
I'm continuing my rewatch of all Theo Angelopoulos' films, so tonight's pick is:
Ulyssesβ Gaze (1995)
It's definitely one of my favourite Angelopoulos films, possibly one of my favourite films period.
Now watching:
Rabbit Trap (2025)
I've been wanting to see this for a while, and finally getting around to it. Really looking forward to it!
Leg day.
Looks like good wholesome fun:
