This Sunday we are invited to go into our own desert, in a figurative way. Can we disconnect from social media to spend just ten minutes every day of Lent in silence, letting God speak to us? Can we stop thinking, just long enough, to listen to God with our heart? To witness his presence to us!
At one time Nicholas was discerning his vocation with our community. Icons he created during those years are cherished and venerated in our community.
Nicholas is a very talented iconographer. At one time he was discerning his vocation with our community. During those years he created beautiful icons which we venerate to this day.
The ancient and constant tradition of the Orthodox churches (baptism, chrismation, eucharist at infancy in one ritual) is being noticed again by Roman Catholics. Some call it "restored order" with a few dioceses following it. Perhaps the Holy Spirit is trying to tell us something...
My parents remarked how it was part of their childhood. A kind of "turning the calendar", so to speak. Spring beckons!
Thanks for posting that! Two of my favorites are Oingo Bingo and Echo and the Bunnymen. Looking forward to checking it out!
Today we again hear the Beatitudes. They are not easy, clear answers in our modern world. Jesus offers criteria that place the Christian in the midst of the world and at the heart of its conflicts, where various allegiances compete with one another violently. May we continue to be peacemakers!
Conversion of the way to Damascus by Caravaggio
The Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul is January 25th. This year the Sunday observance takes precedence. But our community #PaulistFathers will celebrate its patronal feast nonetheless! Society needs an ongoing conversion experience as well. May St. Paul intercede for us all during this time!
Saddened by this news. I knew him personally and always appreciated his insights. RIP ๐

John the Baptist gives witness in this Sunday's gospel, reminding us of our baptismal promise to do likewise. How do we measure up? May our witness be found in our stumbling and falling! Finding the courage to try again and testify God is here; constantly at work in our messy, imperfect lives.
We hear of Jesus' baptism today and the nagging question we ask ourselves is "Why?" He is without sin. But Jesus came to make himself one with us, sinners as we are, and walk through the cleansing waters with us, to show that the love of God reaches those in need of mercy. We are his people!
I remember my first time in Ireland, visiting four relatives in succession one day, each performing that deeply engrained ritual with multiple cups. I spent the rest of the day visiting "the loo"... ๐คฃ
Our observance of Christmas ends this Sunday as we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. For some Christians, it begins today! Our brothers and sisters in the Orthodox tradition observe it as Christmas Day. May it be a joyful time for them, and reminder for us to always proclaim the incarnation!
The "tea ceremony" was very much observed in my home! Anybody, and I mean "anybody", who showed up at the door were immediately offered tea and biscuits. And if they declined, mom would be insulted. A tradesman once told her, "I'm here to work, not drink tea!" He was not invited back... ๐คฃ
That makes two of us! ๐
I have found myself on both sides of that telephone line. Whatever name the ministry may go by, all that is needed is for someone to be willing to let others "chew on their ear". Having that person listen alleviates so much that burdens us. We then realize we're not alone.
God bless them! ๐ They helped a family member through some dark times.
Today is the anniversary of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini. She died in 1917 at Columbus Hospital in Chicago after faithfully serving the immigrant community of the US. As she was also an immigrant, we invoke her as the patron saint of immigrants. May she continue to intercede for us! ๐
All decorated at St. Gregory the Great! Our outdoor nativity scene reminds us of what we're journeying to!

Indeed! I'm keenly aware that Sunday (12/14) is also the anniversary of the Sandy Hook School shootings; 26 victims. And the list of school shootings grows; Columbine, Virginia Tech and Uvalde to name but a few. How long Lord?
This Sunday is Gaudete Sunday. In 2012 it was the day of the Sandy Hook School shootings; 26 victims. It has always stayed with me. I watched my parishioners in the following days hugging their own children a little bit closer. Let's pray for those families who lost loved ones in the tragedy. ๐
Nice to see another Tully following the "goings on" in Ireland!
We started Advent at St. Gregory the Great with a parish mission and reconciliation service. It was wonderful to have Fr. Frank DeSiano, CSP lead it, and Fr. John Hurley, CSP join us as well. Our parish is now helping to "prepare the way of the Lord"! ๐
My early years of priesthood were spent ministering to those afflicted. I watched so many wither before my eyes. It pained me terribly as they went home to the Lord; ostracized and abandoned. Their funerals were often only myself and the funeral director. Please join me in remembering them. ๐
Mind if I join you? ๐คฃ
May it be an impetus for all Christians to settle on a common date for Easter! ๐
