The main mission is diabetes management but the autoimmune condition is not the exciting sushi side quest. Do you have any ideas?

The main life lesson from this week is the detrimental impact of poverty. It leads to intergenerational struggles, crime and mental health crises. I know this is not groundbreaking. Socioeconomic disparity was just at the forefront of my mind. Limited opportunities. Penury.

Equitable reading Books, fairness and the stories we help to make accessible

Happy #WorldBookDay πŸ“š

Enjoy the celebration, but also take a moment to be curious.

Who has access?
Who can find belonging in a story?

It was one of those what am I doing days. Yes, it’s my dream job. The dream job is also the stress/challenge I chose though. I know it’s not easy. Alternative provision settings are similar but it’s my first time in a secure unit.

The narrative about lacking aspirations is not something I see either.
What I do see is a lack of support and a lack of access.

I like early career anecdotes. There is nostalgia in first classroom stories. I know my ECT1 year is not mainstream. I have panic buttons under my desk.

Wednesday 4th March
Rob Grant was born in Salford in 1955 and studied Psychology, but his passion was comedy writing.
For years, Rob wrote comedy the most fun way possible; with a partner, lobbing silly half-ideas back and forward across a room until they came became their funniest form. Rob Grant first worked with Doug Grant on the political satire show Spitting Image in 1985.
Their magnus opus was the Sci-Fi comedy Red Dwarf (first aired in 1988) which they wrote under a single pen-name β€˜Grant Naylor’. The show’s premise was that Dave Lister is sent to sleep for smuggling a cat aboard a spaceship, then wakes up three million years later as the last human alive, stuck with a hologram bunkmate and a creature evolved from that cat (clip). Rob & Doug’s collaboration lasted until 1995 and saw them win an Emmy for season 6 episode Gunman Of The Apocalypse.
The pair fell out (though kept their reasons private) and Naylor continued to write Red Dwarf alone, but Grant later found a second creative partnership with Andrew Marshall to write more TV shows and a Red Dwarf prequel novel Titan. Sadly Rob Grant died last Wednesday aged 70, just a week after the announcement of Titan’s release this summer.
Why do you think comedy writing in particular is so often something done in pairs/teams?
What would make a good comedy partnership?
In what other areas (music, youtubers, sport etc) do you see β€œduos” working well together. Who’s your best school work partner?

Wednesday's TGT remembers Rob Grant who died last week. Discuss comedy writing, working partnerships or just bask in the silly of some Red Dwarf clips.

Starting to get really tired of "It's a distraction."

No. They're not "distractions." They're crimes. Any one of these actions Trump has pulled would see any other president impeached if not imprisoned/charged with war crimes.

The Epstein files aren't the only thing that matters. IT ALL MATTERS.

Entitlement is not just literacy, numeracy & keeping children safe, though it is never less than that. Entitlement is the whole childhood a public service is supposed to protect. If we only guarantee what is examined, we quietly teach a bleak lesson about whose lives are allowed to be wide.

I see that too. I know when I’m reporting back identity is in the language of acronyms and diagnoses. Verbal shorthand seems to lead to othering children. For me, the β€˜SEND group’ issue broadens to any situation with labels. For example, β€˜LAC students’ and β€˜PP children’.

This is an example in alternative provision. The first pupil with ADHD struggles with frenetic energy and impulsive behaviour. The second needs help with time management executive dysfunction.

FP

SP

β€˜SEND children’, β€˜SEMH pupils’, β€˜the behaviour group’, etc. Categories can be useful but they can also have a reductionist element. Students with similar needs are not the same.

28.02.2026 17:19 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I really don’t like the term β€˜SEND’. And I really don’t like that we refer to a group of children as β€˜SEND children.’ Like they all need the same thing because they’re β€˜SEND.’
In kayaking, when you β€˜send it’, you’ve generally hucked over a massive waterfall or done a huge loop on a wave.
As ever, -
