Stop image-based abuse
Over the last 18 months, survivor and campaigner Jodie*, the End Violence Against Women Coalition, #NotYourPorn, Professor Clare McGlynn and Glamour UK have campaigned for action to stop deepfake abuse. Today, a new law comes into force making it illegal.

This is a welcome and long-overdue step for survivors, but criminalisation alone is not enough.
Last Saturday marked 20 years since Banaz Mahmod was murdered in a so-called 'honour killing'.
Her death sparked wider conversations in the UK’s recognition of so-called 'honour'-based abuse, which is in the process of becoming recognised as a crime in UK law.

We are delighted to be celebrating this collaborative campaign win. From today, following the success of #KeepCounsellingConfidential, the police must better respect the rights of survivors of sexual violence and recognise the privacy and dignity to which they are entitled.
One year ago today, the government announced it would make deepfake abuse an offence. But this has still not in been brought into force.
While we wait: Grok (X’s AI bot) is nudifying women’s photos without their consent 96% of all deepfakes found online are pornographic, and 99.9% of these are of women Deepfake abuse has a long-lasting, traumatic impact on victims. It is a violation of our rights and restricts our freedoms
Billion-dollar tech companies are enabling and profiting from this abuse. They must be held accountable. Currently, tech platforms can choose whether or not to follow guidelines for tackling violence against women online. This must be made mandatory, with consequences for those that don’t comply.
