1st meeting of White House Religious Liberty Commission, being held at Museum of the Bible, opens with a prayer "in Jesus's holy name." That quickly shows that this isn't about true religious liberty for all but instead co-opting religious liberty for conservative Christianity.

If it feels like this moment is too much, as if it’s all going so fast, in some many directions—that is by design. Authoritarian seizure happens through expansive acceleration.

In just one week: A GOP president deployed Marines in a U.S. city, called for a Democratic governor’s arrest, the GOP Speaker called for him to be tarred and feathered, a Democratic senator was handcuffed, and two Democratic legislators were shot in their homes.

A Democratic Mayor arrested.

A Democratic Congresswoman indicted.

A Democratic Senator tackled and detained.

A Democratic State Representative killed.

A Democratic State Representative in critical condition.

We can all see where this is going.
