Even the existence and motivations of Sephiroth exist as a direct consequence not just of Shinra's militarization but also as Sephiroth's relation to the planet and how he thinks of himself as his sole equalizer and ultimate solution to the planet's struggles.

Except this concept is not the subtext of the story, the remake makes it the core central conflict of it and everything from character motivations to their backstory is centered around the principle of a megacorporation exploiting planet resources and its consequences on everyone that lives in it.

Now and forever.

They should have announced this in a Nintendo Direct as the “one more thing”.

Although on Rebirth they have a lot of player distractions and mini game not set in the Gold Saucer, so narrative wise wouldnt be a problem.

But fans of the OG would also be upset if the Gold Saucer is not actively available as it was.

Canon Barret would have set a nuke in that place, consequences and collateral damage be damn

And the cast never makes an attempt at shutting the largest energy waste venue in the planet that created the largest desert around it with people living in literal trash as a result.

They comment about it, but they immediatly forget it because they also need their fun timesies for the player.

My biggest pet peeve of FF VII is that the gold saucer contradicts the entire goals of the main casts just for the sake of player enjoyment.

Like the entire plot is about the consequences of overexplotation of planet resources for mundane consumption...
