Well that task I’ve been putting off since forever took a lot less effort than I thought. It turns out eating your frogs (eventually) is a good way to start the morning. I’d like to think that I will learn from this, but I won’t.

Excellent article but stark reminder that for all the perceptions of universities as ivory towers for elites, they are actually vital hubs in towns n cities supporting local businesses and providing key services as well as education….
And just in time for this year’s teaching! I look forward to reading it.

Did anyone watch Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein? 👀
We didn't. We were too busy reading our 1831 edition which is from the Charles Lamb Society Collection (shelf mark: NO 1 IN CLS 1322). #Frankenstein
Huge congrats to the winners of the inaugural Alderbrink Awards for best fine press books published in 2025! 📚

Extremely useful supervision session today that helped to move things on in my own mind. It’s strange how things you’ve been grappling with for months suddenly become obvious when you explain them to someone else. #phdchat
Interesting cfp on bookselling! 📚
And so having failed again to be a productive and organised individual this year, my thoughts turn to the super functional planner system that will turn my fortunes (and personality) around in 2026.
This reminds me of those days where I spend all day doing nothing but having an idea, only to discover I did nothing the previous week but have the same idea. Yay for plans though, that’s good work!
Finally gathered all my strength to get to some writing and all my software wants to update sending me back to the start of my procrastination cycle. I have a very small window of action right now 😂 #PhDlife #PhDchat

Cardboard box of different varieties of tomato
Out harvesting this morning. Looks like we’ve dug up the last of the salad potatoes but the tomatoes are still going strong. Turning this lot into chutney this afternoon. 🌱

Looks like a good haul! You were clearly much more on top of supporting yours - mine are all over the place 😀

Stripes courgettes, new potatoes, and spring onions.
The first of this year’s garden harvest. These became courgette fritters but there are no photos of those because they turned into a courgette fritter/stir fry/hash monstrosity. Still, the potatoes were great!
The yarn was lovely to knit with which helped. Good luck with your project!
Thank you! My problem is I always want to be working on whatever I’m not working on. I have that problem with most things in life 😂
Thank you!
Switching to DK instead of my usual sock yarn helped on the motivation/reward front. Good luck with your slump!
Ha, you may be right 😂
Well it makes sense to have it ready for Christmas. Maybe I’ll get back to my Christmas blanket squares 🎄
Hand knit blue and white hat with snowflake design
Well, it’s not very seasonally appropriate, but I have finally broken out of my knitting slump! Only needing to complete one item definitely helped here (looking at you, single sock drawer). 🧶
Good luck with that!
This week has been a good reminder that it’s ok to rip up the first plan. Also, eating crisps is motivational thinking time. #PhDChat #PhDSky

Visited the National Library of Wales this morning with my rare books group. Many thanks to the staff there for talking to us about the collections and their role as rare book librarians. Always nice to see a Caxton! 📚
