#Khun-Anup, whose performance of #MdwNfr through 9 petitions to representatives of power defended #MAat 4000 years ago, brought what we would call #ethics, #health, #morality, #politics, #rhetoric, and #truth together in that ancient East African country. He fought through his #voice.
One of the greatest exemplars #MdwNfr was devoted to #MAat (truth, balance, order, law, morality, justice, breath, life): the Sekhti-nefer-medu (#EloquentPeasant).

Before the ancient Greeks, however, the importance of #eloquence in #rhetoric was connected as well to divine speech, which the people of Kmt (ancient Egypt) called their language: Mdw ntr. Their word for rhetoric, which they saw linked to the divine, was Mdw nfr (good, beautiful, and fair speech).

Yet we should remember that how we speak also conveys meaning, and both affect #truth. From #Socrates and #Plato's debates with the #Sophists to contemporary challenges to #truth in #politics, #rhetoric is serious business.
#Rhetoric is increasingly being used as a metonym for #bullshit.
While #rhetoric historically referred to eloquence, its use was primarily that of language to influence others, which was, understandably, important for political life. Recent use, at least in U.S. politics, is cynical and perlocutionary. It has become a patronizing term to talk down at opponents.
There is a lot of rhetoric these days about #rhetoric.
