I was over depression before I started transitioning, but I find that the ability to hide my emotions is still useful on rough nights, even if it's a little less effective once people have seen how much happier I am nowadays.
One of the most useful skills I've ever learned is the ability to mask my feelings around people.

Maybe the issue is that it's objectively just horror if you kidnap people, torture them physically and psychologically in a basement, sexually assault them, sex traffic them, and have them continue the cycle of evil. And sometimes a fresh coat of paint helps you see that.
